    I work in a bank (银行). My home is near a park and is about ten kilometers from my office. I usually go to work by train. I usually get up at 6:30 a. m. and take the train at 7:00 a. m. It usually takes me about thirty minutes to get to my office. The train is quick and cheap. I am never late for work.

     I am a student. My house is near a river . My school is across from (在……对面) the river. I can walk to school.  It takes me about thirty minutes. But I often go to school by boat, because it is more fun. It takes me about twenty minutes.

Human's Greatest Achievements

    The Earth is 4.5 billion years old, but the human race has lived on it for just 200,000 years. In that short time, we have achieved some amazing things.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} The list is almost endless. The invention of the airplane has changed our lives. The discovery of antibiotics(抗生素) has saved the lives of millions of people. Can you imagine living without electricity? What about the printing press? Without the printing press, you wouldn't be reading this. In the last 50 years, there have been great achievements in communication, such as radio, TV, computers, the Internet, and smartphones{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    What about arts? The arts have brought pleasure to many people, but are the Beatles and Bach more important than antibiotics?{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Finally, we must not forget humans' early achievements{#blank#}4{#/blank#}We can't imagine modern life without cooked food and cars.

    What are humans' greatest achievements? To answer the question, we need to decide what we mean by “great”{#blank#}5{#/blank#} Or is it just something that makes us say “Wow,” like the Great Wall? What do you think?

    The Spring Festival is Chinese people's festival. There are different names for each Chinese year. We call it the Year of the Rooster, the Year of Gog…And this year is the Year of Pig.

    Before the festival, people are busy shopping and cleaning their houses. On the eve, there is a big family dinner. After dinner, all the family stay up late to welcome the New Year.

    On the Spring Festival, people put on their new clothes and go to visit their relatives and friends. They say "Happy New Year" and some other greetings to each other. People have a good time during the festival.

    It's Saturday today. It's ten o'clock. Jack's father is sitting on the sofa near the window (A)他正在读今天的报纸。Jack's aunt is taking photos of some beautiful flowers in the garden. Jack's uncle is watching sports games on TV. Basketball games are his favorite sport but he can't play basketball. Where are Jack's two cousins? Look! Lily is over there. She is listening to music.     Did you know that tea, the most popular drink in the world（after water）was invented by accident？Many people believe that tea was first drunk about 5, 000 years ago. It is said that a Chinese ruler called Shen Nong was the first to discover tea as a drink.  One day Shen Nong was boiling drinking water over an open fire. Some leaves from a tea plant fell into the water and remained there for some time. It produced a nice smell so he tasted the brown water. It was quite delicious, and so, one of the world's favorite drinks was invented.

    A few thousand years later, Lu Yu, "the saint of tea", mentioned Shen Nong in his book Cha Jing. The book describes how tea plants were grown and used to make tea. It also discusses where the finest tea leaves were produced and what kinds of water were used.

    It is believed that tea was brought to Korea and Japan during the 6th and 7th centuries. In England, tea didn't appear until around 1660, but in less than 100 years, it had become the national drink. The tea trade from China to Western countries took place in the 19th century. This helped to spread the popularity of tea and the tea plant to more places around the world. Even though many people now know about tea culture, the Chinese are without doubt the ones who best understand the nature of tea.

    The villas(别墅)were very nice. Beautiful houses, wonderful lawns, and nice gardens. This was the kind of housing estate where John Wood preferred to work.

    It was just before eleven o'clock at night. After John drove around for the fifth time, he thought that he had found the right house-No. 4. There was no light and the garage(车库)door was open. John parked his car in the next street and then came into the garage.

    No one would think that a well-dressed gentleman with a white silk scarf and gloves, was really an excellent thief.

    After looking around the house for a while, John got down to work. He searched every room, and before long, his hands were full. He had two necklaces, some gold rings and a purse with a lot of money. He put all the things in his pocket.

    Then he found a small wall safe(保险箱)in the bedroom. John couldn't wait to take the valuable things from the safe and put them into his own pocket！But the thief met a problem; he couldn't open the safe.

    John wiped a few drops of sweat from his forehead, took off his gloves, and placed them on a chair. Again and again, and finally, he opened the safe. He saw something shining-a huge diamond.

    Suddenly, John heard someone opening the front door. It was the owner of the house. John put the diamond in his pocket, ran to the window, climbed out of the house and drove away in the dark.

    Ten minutes later, the police arrived. After searching the house. the police found an important piece of evidence(证据)that could easily tell who was the thief.
