A video of Wang Deshun, an 88-year-old model and actor, strutting the catwalk at Shanghai Fashion Week {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(sweep) the internet recently. His distinctive white beard and robust physique, complemented by a vibrant red suit, captivated the audience with a {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(strike)contrast.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} in 1936, this 88-year-old grandpa's spirit is as strong as ever. "I still have dreams and pursuits. I can do now what I could not do in the past, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} that is what rebirth should be about."

Due to the physical {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(require) of pantomime, Wang, at 50 years old, decided to hit the gym. Training for two hours was followed by two hours of swimming every single day for 30 years, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} helped him shape a healthy and strongly-built body.

"Thirty years ago, I used {#blank#}7{#/blank#} models how to walk with the help of my wife. One day (in 2015), one of our students asked about my body's condition, and I said it's fine. So I was invited to make {#blank#}8{#/blank#} appearance in the show," Wang said, recalling the events that led to overnight fame.

After making waves in the fashion industry{#blank#}9{#/blank#}a male model in his late 70s, the then 85-year-old Wang was once again defying stereotypes concerning the elderly by taking {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a new challenge: getting a pilot's license.

It was a cold February day. Dangwen and his wildlife monitoring team patrolled(巡逻)along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. That day, they {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (meet) 220 blue sheep and five white-lipped deer. Through the camera, they found a mother and two baby leopards(豹) — and the babies had grown much {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (big) than three months earlier.

Dangwen comes from Yunta, a village located in Sanjiangyuan, Qinghai Province on the Tibetan Plateau. Sanjiangyuan serves as an important habitat {#blank#}3{#/blank#}  rich and unique species.

Dangwen is neither officially a researcher {#blank#}4{#/blank#} an activist. But he has taken upon himself the task of monitoring local wildlife with a team of other villagers, as part of a conservation project driven by the Shanshui Conservation Center, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Beijing-based non-governmental organization. When the organization brought up the idea of {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (organize) villagers to watch over wildlife and protect their lands, Dangwen volunteered {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (immediate). Having grown up in the village, he knows very well the land, the river and the wildlife, and he is especially proud of the sacred mountains {#blank#}8{#/blank#} are around all of them. This is the fourth year that Yunta villagers have carried out this monitoring, patrolled the village to identify poachers(偷猎者), and managed rubbish {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (keep)the land and rivers clean.

Monitoring data shows that local wildlife {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (population), including snow leopards, are increasing.

Growing up in a suburban neighborhood in the Northeastern United States, the advent of springtime didn't hold much significance for me. While it did bring a week-long respite from school, the focus was more on the vacation aspect than the season itself.

For the children in my community, spring was largely an overlooked period. The year was divided into two primary seasons: winter, which offered the thrill of ice skating, sledding, and constructing snow forts; and summer, which allowed us to fully enjoy the beach located a short distance from my home. Spring and autumn were merely transitional periods, marking the countdown to the more exciting seasons.

It's true that as I matured, spring began to hold a certain charm for me, as suggested by the poetic line, "In the spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love," penned by Alfred Lord Tennyson. However, my fascination was more with the romantic notions associated with the season rather than the season itself.

In essence, spring was not a season I paid much heed to... until my journey to China. After spending roughly three months in Beijing, my first Spring Festival made its presence known in an undeniable way. The sporadic fireworks throughout the day and night were a clear indication, but what truly struck me was the apparent absence of the usual hustle and bustle in the city.

The usual throngs of people, streams of vehicles, and the general city noise seemed to have vanished. This mystery was resolved upon my return to work. My colleagues enlightened me that it is customary for Chinese people to travel, if necessary, to reunite with their families during the Spring Festival. Many residents of Beijing are not originally from the capital.

Furthermore, I was introduced to a fascinating aspect of the Spring Festival that continues to astonish me. Regardless of when the holiday commences, there is an almost instantaneous and perceptible improvement in the weather. Spring truly makes its entrance.

The ancient Chinese ability to devise a system that could consistently and accurately herald the change of seasons, year after year, is beyond my comprehension. Yet, they managed to achieve this remarkable feat.

"A decade-long moratorium (中止) on fishing was imposed on the country's longest river in 2021 {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the aim of restoring its ecological health. After three years, the fish population in the river has recovered obviously, but the moratorium still faces constant threats from illegal fishing,"Tang Renjian, minister of agriculture and rural affairs, said at a news conference.

In {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (respond) to that, Tang said, "Authorities will step up nighttime surveillance (监视) as well as patrols near river sections close to provincial borders. Relying on automatic and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (intelligence) monitoring methods, we are strengthening round-the-clock monitoring and supervision of critical water areas."

Ma Youxiang, a vice-minister of agriculture and rural affairs, told the news conference, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} it has increased by a quarter since 2021, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} total fish population in the Yangtze is only {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (slight) more than a third of the preindustrial (工业化前的) level. To restore fish populations is a long task. Tang described the ban as a long-term, complex and hard historical task closely {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (link) to the Chinese nation's sustainable development.

"{#blank#}8{#/blank#} you may see, the current state of the Yangtze can {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (regard) as being in the early stages of recovery from a serious illness after decades of overfishing and pollution," Tang said.

Ministry of Public Security data show it has solved more than 20,000 cases {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (involve) violations of the ban since 2021. Over that period, illegal fishing in the main waterways of the Yangtze has decreased by almost a third, and less than 10 percent involves more destructive organized crimes.

It was a sunny Sunday afternoon. My husband was taking care of our baby girl so that my six-year-old son and I could do some yard work, just the two of us. It was sure to be 1 . But soon, the clouds of mosquitos seemed 2 to our bug spray (喷雾). I was sweating, itchy, and arguing with my son about how to pull weeds. I had told him the "right" way — getting those weeds out from the bottom, by the roots, 3 them entirely. 

However, my son went about things in his own way. He pulled the 4 of the weeds off, moving quickly down the line as he left the remaining part still in the soil. Somehow, I found this to be incredibly 5 . Why couldn't he do it in my way and save me the time of having to 6 his portion (部分)? Why did he do it at all if he wasn't going to do it properly? 

"If you do as told, we'd be done earlier and 7 a longer period before we would have to return and pull weeds next time," I said, trying to keep my tone 8 . 

He went back to his work, shaking dirt from his handful of growing things and throwing 9 stems into our shared basket. "People do things 10 , Mom," he said innocently. 

My fire soon faded, replaced by the 11 realization that I'd just received a valuable12 from the person that I was supposed to be teaching. While trying to 13 my baby girl, my kindergartener, and the yard work, 14 was a lifeline for me. But my way was, perhaps, not the best way after all. His time shouldn't be 15 . His job was to be a kid and take his time, for as long as he was able.

After months of preparation, my husband Bill and I flew to China to welcome our new daughter, our 18-month-old angel "Shirley". But when we picked her up, Shirley missed her Chinese mother so 1 she would barely look at Bill and me. Instead, she'd stand at our hotel room door and 2 for the only mother she had known. 

I was so embarrassed that lunch in a restaurant was out of the 3 . I was afraid people would think I was a "bad mother. " So I 4 our meals from room service. 

One time I chose the noodle plate and tried to use chopsticks for the very first time. The noodles kept 5 off my chopsticks. At this time, Shirley's screaming suddenly stopped. 

Peeking out of the corner of my eye, I saw her sitting in the room corner 6 me attentively. And in no time, a tiny hand came into 7 , took the chopsticks from my big hand. As I looked up, Shirley — with the chopsticks skillfully arranged in her little fingers — began expertly feeding me noodles, without 8 a single one. 

I looked at Bill, who was wide-eyed with 9 . "Do you think she would 10 me?" he wondered 11 . So, trembling with 12 , I asked, "Shirley, will you feed your daddy now?" and 13 to Bob. She nodded "yes" with a big smile on her face!

That meal was definitely a 14 experience. Shirley must have felt that we would 15 without her assistance!
