I have finally been able to become an active volunteer(n.志愿者) with the Free Meal Program in the city {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I live. I will volunteer(v.做自愿者) at weekends and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (hopeful), I will help feed less fortunate people at the Rescue Center every week. At the thought of this, I can't feel {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (happy)!

    I have applied at several other places {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (volunteer), like SPCA and my local hospital. There is a great sense of {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (accomplish) and pure joy in giving back to the community, helping others and in showing kindness. This is one of the things I live {#blank#}6{#/blank#}! I want to do what I can for society and help make a difference. I wish that many {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (inspire) to devote a bit of their time to local organizations in the future. There's always {#blank#}8{#/blank#} strong need for people to come together and help out fellow humans and animals too! We all believe volunteering is rewarding and look forward to more of it.

    Jin Hanmiao,a first grader from China,received a reply letter from Buckingham Palace{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(recent) after writing to introduce the China-Britain express railway service.

    The letter is based{#blank#}2{#/blank#}the 19-day journey of the first China-U.K.freight（货运）train.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(see) the news of its return to Yiwu,Jin's mother encouraged him to write about it and then send the letter to Queen ElizabethⅡ.

    In his letter,Jin introduced{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(he) and Yiwu,as well as his hope{#blank#}5{#/blank#}the Queen would appreciate{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(tradition) Chinese culture.He also expressed his interest in the U.K.,after mentioning some British famous persons and places including Isaac Newton,Charles Darwin,and the British Museum.He then sent his letter to the Queen.

    Jin's mother helped translate the letter into English,and sent both the original letter and the translation to London on May 8.Two months{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(late),a reply from Buckingham Palace{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(receive).The letter talked about the living and working conditions of the Queen at{#blank#}9{#/blank#}early age,and included a detailed{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(introduce) of the Palace.

    The giant panda {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(love) by people throughout the world. Chinese scientists{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (recent) had a chance to study a wild female panda with a newborn baby. She was a very{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (care) mother. For 25 days, she never left her baby, not even to find something (eat)! S{#blank#}4{#/blank#}he would not let any other pandas come near. She licked the baby constantly to keep it clean. Any smell might attract natural{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (enemy) that would try to eat the little comforting pats. The mother held the baby in her front paws much the way a human does, it {#blank#}6{#/blank#}cried, she rocked it back and forth and gave it little comforting pats, The mother continued to care for the young panda {#blank#}7{#/blank#} more than two years. By that time, the panda no longer needed {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (it) mother for food. However, it stayed with her and leaned about the ways of the forest. Then, after two and a half years, the mother {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(drive) the young panda away. It was time for her to have a new baby, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} it was also time for the young panda to be independent.

    Nelson Mandela was a great fighter. In his early days, he was a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (law) and set up a law office,{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (offer) help to poor black people. Elias was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} of them. After he found a job in Johannesburg, he became worried about being out of work, for he didn't have a passbook. Later, he became a leader of ANC Youth League. They attacked the anti-black laws. In 1963, ANC began to blow {#blank#}7{#/blank#} buildings because the peaceful way was not allowed. Nelson Mandela, this brave and {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (determine) man, devoted all his life to {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (help) the black to achieve equality. In 1993, he {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (give) the Nobel Peace Prize for his great contributions.

    One day, Nick invited his friends to supper. He was cooking some delicious food in the kitchen. Suddenly, he {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (find) that he had run out of salt. So Nick called to his son, "Go to the village and buy some salt, but pay a fair price for it: neither too much {#blank#}2{#/blank#}too little.
