An elephant and a monkey were arguing (争论).

    “Look, how big and strong I am!” The elephant said.

    The monkey didn't agree, “Look, how fast I can run and climb! Can you?”

    At last they asked a clever tiger, “Which is better—to be strong or to be quick?”

    The tiger said, “Go across the river and pick the fruit on that tree for me, then I can tell.”

    So they went to the river, but the water ran fast and the monkey was afraid.

    “Get on my back,” said the elephant proudly (自豪地), “I shall carry you.”

    Soon they crossed the river. There stood the tree. But the fruit was too high for the elephant to reach. He tried to pull the tree down, but failed.

    “Don't worry.” The monkey climbed quickly up the tree, and picked the fruit.

    Then they came back and gave the tiger the fruit. “Which is better — to be strong or to be quick?”

    The tiger smiled, “Both of you could not get the fruit alone. It took both the elephant's strength and the monkey's quickness to get it.”

    One of the most detailed(详细的) descriptions Of a UEO was given by nine-year-old Gaynor in Sunderland in July 1976.

    Gaynor lived in Oakenholt, a village in North Wales. On her way home from school, she saw a silver(银色的) object shaped like a saucer(茶碟) in a field not far from her home.

    The strange craft(飞行物) was about 30 feet long and 9 feet high. It had yellow windows along the side and on the top there was a light flashing in a kind of box. Although Gaynor was very frightened, she did not run away. Instead, she lay quietly in the long grass and watched the door of the strange craft open. She saw two people wearing silver suits come out of the craft. They were carrying some kind of equipment(设备) which they used to examine the ground.  They were short and had large pink eyes, Gaynor reported.

    After about half an hour, the two people went back into the craft. At once there was a loud noise and the UFO took off.

    Although Gaynor told her mother what she had seen, her family decided to keep quiet about it. They did not want people to laugh at their daughter. However, 18 months later, Gaynor told her story to UFO experts. They hypnotized(使进入睡眠状态) Gaynor so that they could be sure she was telling the truth.

    Not only did she repeat her story, but also she was able to draw a picture of what she had seen!

    Once upon a time, a young man wanted to go to a village on business. Halfway there was a mountain. Before he left home, his family warned him to stay calm and climb onto trees if he was in face of beasts. In this way, the beasts couldn't do anything to him.

    The young man remembered these words and began his trip.

    He walked for a long time carefully and found that no beasts were out there. He thought his family's worries were superfluous. And he became relaxed as he walked. Just at that moment, he saw a fierce tiger running to him and he climbed onto a tree nearby at once.

    The tiger roared around the tree and even jumped to reach the man. The young man was too scared to hold the tree and fell right on the back of the tiger. Full of fear, he had to hold the tiger tightly. The tiger thought that must be a giant beast. So it was afraid and started running madly.

    People on the road didn't know what happened and said, "Look at the young man. He is riding a tiger!" "Cool!" "Superman!"

    Hearing these words, the young man was very angry. "Why can't they see I'm suffering a lot? Don't they understand I am in fear and almost scared to death? "he said to himself.

    For years I went to school by bus, so I met many "familiar" strangers. We took the same bus but didn't know each other's names. I used to think it was impossible for us to be true friends. How wrong I was! Smiles from the "nameless" people have changed my thought.

    The first time on the bus, I saw different faces. As days went on, we hatted like old friends.

    But I felt it a pity that I was unable to set up the same friendship with a silent girl in the front of the bus. Her old clothing suggested that she didn't have much money, but she always took a cup of water for the driver. I guessed she was a kind girl. But why did she sit in silence instead of talking with us? Why did she never reply to our friendly greetings? Couldn't she smile?

    Then, one evening, I got the answer. I walked to the park nearby and found the girl sitting alone under a tree, lonely and sad. I greeted her with the same warm smile that had shown to her all these months, but this time her face turned red, then a shy smile appeared. As soon as she began her first words, I understood why she hadn't spoken to us before. Talking was hard for her.

    I heard her story. Her parents worked hard somewhere. She lived with her disabled grandparents. She said, "I can't express myself very well. Most of the time, I can't say what I want to say I have no friends but. You always smile at me like an angel… so I also want to smile." That evening, we exchanged our names and we said goodbye like old friends.

    The smile is the key to opening the door of heart; it can break the cold walls in front of us.

    My name is Jack. My home is about 3 miles1school. I leave2school at about 6：20. I usually go to school3. It takes me 30 minutes. But sometimes I go there 4. It takes5 only ten minutes.

    I went to the market at 7 p.m.. The smoky smell of kebabs(烤肉串) created a nice summer atmosphere(氛围). DJs on the stage played songs and the streets were packed with people. At that time, I thought I returned to China.

    I went to a stall(摊位) with bright red and orange decorations. A sign with the words "typical(典型的) Spanish" hung at the front of the stall. The dishes in front of me were confusing(困惑的), because I had never tried Spanish food before. A woman at the stall smiled, pointed at some food and said: "You can try this seafood rice. It's a very typical Spanish dish. Unlike Chinese fried rice, the rice was as orange as the stall's decorations. I tried it. I found that it was quite delicious as soon as I put it into my mouth.

    I spent 50 Australian dollars in total, but I got to taste Greek meatballs, Thai noodles and a Brazilian burger. I'm glad that the Victoria Market offers so many great foods from every corner of the world!
