McDull is a talking piglet(小猪). He is not lazy. He isn't smart or good-looking. But he has a heart of gold. McDull lives with his mother Mrs Mak in Hong Kong. Before his birth, his father left them. Mrs Mak had to raise McDull by herself.

They are not rich, but Mrs Mak tries her best to make a good life for McDull. However, when McDull grows up, he becomes a detective(侦探) and leaves home. The mother and the son are not as close as before. Can they go back together and be close mother and son again?

You may find the answer by watching the movie McDull · Me & My Mum. The movie is the fifth in the McDull series. As the first appearance of McDull film, McDull became a popular cartoon character(角色) because of his spirit of never giving up. The funny piglet has many dreams but fails every time he tries. He is down, but he keeps trying and works hard for other dreams.

Mrs Mak doesn't appear very often in the first four McDull movies. But in McDull · Me & My Mum, she is a main character. The film is about mother's love.

    Today is Sunday, December 2nd, everyone in Sheep Village (羊村) is very busy. What does he/she do?

    It was a sunny night. Jim was having a drink with his friend.  He drank too much, and he had to leave at half past eight because he had a ticket for a music festival, which would start at nine o'clock.

    It was half past an hour's walk from the pub to the theatre. Jim knew a shortcut that would only take ten minutes, but it meant crossing rails(铁轨), and was dangerous. He took the shorter way, however, and when he reached the rails, he tripped(绊倒) and fell over. Then he fell asleep with his face down. After a while, a train came. When the driver saw a body lying on the track, he tried hard to stop the train. When it finally stopped, it was several meters before the body. The driver quickly got off and checked. Luckily, he found the man was still alive, but sleeping. Though the driver tried hard to wake him, Jim just kept sleeping. The driver took Jim to the hospital, where he woke up at last.

    When Jim was told what had happened, he decided to give up drinking. “I'm so lucky that I have a chance to turn my life around,' he said.

    Carol and Linda took a trip to San Francisco last July. They went there to visit Nick. Nick is a friend from their old neighborhood in Rome. He moved to San Francisco five years ago. They went there by train because they wanted to see more of the United States.

    They arrived in San Francisco in the evening. Nick met them at the train station. They were so delighted to see him. He looked the same as before. They gave him a big hug(拥抱).The next day, they went sightseeing(观光).They saw the Golden Gate Bridge. They had lunch at Fisherman's Wharf. At Fisherman's Wharf, they saw the fishing boats come in. The next day, they visited the University of California at Berkeley. Nick teaches music there. Carol and Linda liked the school. They thought that it was very big and very beautiful.

    They saw all of San Francisco before they left. Nick took them everywhere! They went back to New Orleans by plane because they didn't have time to go back by train. Nick was sad(伤心的)to see them go and they were sad to leave.

    All in all, Carol and Linda had a wonderful trip. They traveled(旅行)across Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. They visited all of San Francisco. They had a great visit with Nick. They both wanted to go again next summer!

    A father and his son went to a kite-flying festival. The son was full of joy when he saw the sky filled with colorful kites. He wanted to fly a kite, too. The father then bought a kite for him.

    The son started to fly the kite. Soon, his kite was high up in the sky. After a while, he said, "Father, it seems that the string (线) is stopping the kite from flying higher. If we cut it, the kite will be free and fly even higher. Can we cut it?" The father cut the string. The kite started to go higher. This made the little boy happy.

    But then, slowly, the kite started to come down. And finally it fell to the ground. The son was surprised to see this. He asked his father, "I thought that after cutting the string, the kite would fly higher. Why did it fall down?"

    The father explained, "The string was not stopping the kite from going higher, but was helping it stay in the sky. You helped the kite go up in the right direction using the string. But when you cut the string, it could no longer support the kite."

    Sometimes, we may feel like there are certain things that are holding us back (阻碍) and stopping us growing. But in fact, these might be the things that support us the most.
