I still remember that day. I was waiting to get some   1for shopping in a bank. Among the crowd, I noticed a little boy carrying some sunglasses in one hand and a big bag in  2 .

The boy was about 10 years old. He was walking around the people inside the  3 and asked them to buy his sunglasses. But   4 would buy any from him. He tried from one person to another. From the look on his face, I knew he would not   5 anyway.

Now, I decided to have a 6with him. I went up and asked, “Do you go to school?” He nodded his head. Then I continued, “Why do you 7 sunglasses?” He said nothing. I gave him $20 and said that I was not in 8of the sunglasses but he could keep the money. To my 9 , his face changed a lot, which is still in my memory today. I didn't know 10 to say next. Then he replied, “Either you buy sunglasses or you 11 back the money. I don't need your pity." I felt very 12 for what I did, and I told him that I would buy two pairs.

I took these sunglasses home and kept 13 myself, “Did such a young boy need to do it for his self-respect（自尊）?” He could 14take the $20 and left. But he chose to sell his sunglasses and get the money not because of others'15 . I will remember this lesson forever.

    Every year, a magazine called Executive Travel organizes a competition to find the best airline of the year. Travelers from all over the world are invited to vote for the most punctual(准时的), the safest and the friendliest airline. The competition also invites them to tell their most frightening stories during their travels. Now let's read some travelers' tales of1 flying experiences.

    One traveler shared his story which happened on an African airline. The flight had been overbooked(超额预定).The flight staff picked the2 out by saying that all passengers with boarding cards run around the plane twice; the 3 getting the seats.

    Another overbooked flight that was going from Heathrow Airport to America gave a traveler a bit of a shock. Dressed only in trousers, a shirt and socks, the traveler had been allowed to leave the plane to see 4 he could get a friend aboard. But when he 5a few minutes later, he found the plane closed up and about to start moving—with his shoes, wallet, passport and luggage on board. Striking heavily on the door, he was allowed to get back inside.

    Luggage is also a rich source of horror stories. There was the unlucky traveler who left Chicago where the temperature was-11℃. He was going to attend an important meeting in Dallas where the temperature was as 6 as 26.7℃. Unfortunately, his suitcase had gone to Los Angeles and wasn't able to be sent to him before the meeting. So he had to attend the meeting in a thick suit, a heavy overcoat and a fur hat.

    Poor Les had a dream of being a DJ. He went to a radio station every day for a week, 1  a job. Finally the station manager offered one to him, but with no pay! Les said thanks and 2 it. He was asked to get coffee and pick up lunches and dinners for the workers at the station. However, when possible, Les would go to the studio (演播室) and learn whatever he could. Back in his room at night, he 3 and prepared for an opportunity (机会).

    One Saturday afternoon, one DJ named Rock drank too much and he seemed to have trouble with his 4. Suddenly, the phone rang. Les picked it up. He was the 5 person at the station. It was the station manager.

    The manager knew Rock couldn't 6 his programme, so he asked Les to call one of the other DJs to come to help. Les said yes, but he waited about 15 minutes before he called the 7 that he found nobody. He was sure his opportunity was on its way.

    Ernest Hemingway, the son of a doctor and a music teacher, was born in 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois. Hemingway's father{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(teach) him early on how to hunt and fish, two activities Hemingway loved throughout his life. Instead of {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(go) to college, Hemingway became a reporter for the Kansas City Star.

    Later, in Europe, he worked as a driver {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the Italian army until he was wounded and shipped home, where he again wrote for newspapers.     Gertrude Stein and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

    Hemingway developed {#blank#}6{#/blank#} style of writing that was simple and direct. He chose words sparingly(俭省地), avoided using adjectives, and trusted the reader to understand {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(mean) of his writing. As he put it, "I always try {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(write) on the principle(原则) of the iceberg(冰山). There is seven eighths of it under water for every part that shows. "This style continues to influence Writers today. In his career(生涯), which lasted some 40 years, Hemingway earned the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize. He was one of the finest writers of the{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(twenty) century.

    For a while Emest Hemingway lived in Key West, Florida, where he had nearly 50 cats. One of them was a cat with six toes(脚趾), which a ship's captain had given him. Today his Key West home is a museum, and many cats still live there. Some of them are {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(child) of Hemingway's six-toed cat. Hemingway was married four times and had three sons. He died in 1961.

    Her work is receiving more and more attention now.

    Jonathan had broken my favorite azalea (杜鹃花)bush before I could stop him. He said nothing but gave me a back and 1 some flowers to school. He didn't see the tears in my eyes while I touched the broken bush 2. When I was left alone, I 3hours thinking how love had disappeared from my life.

    At 5:15, I hurriedly drove to the school. I was out of breath by the time I knocked on the teacher's door. She opened the door and took me aside. "I want to talk to you about Jonathan," she said. I prepared 4 for the worst. Nothing would 5me.

    "Did you know Jonathan brought flowers to school today?" she asked.

I nodded, 6my favorite bush and trying to hide the hurt in my eyes.

"Let me tell you about yesterday," the teacher said. "See that little girl? Well, yesterday she was almost 7. Her mother and father were going to divorce (离婚).     I felt my heart swell (膨胀)with pride for what my son had done. I 12 at the teacher. "Thank you," I said, reaching 13  Jonathan's hand, "you've made my day."

    Later that evening, I began pulling weeds from around my azalea bush. As I thought of the love Jonathan 14the little girl, a poem came to me, "…these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is 15." While my son had put love into practice, I had only felt angry. However, now I felt the seed of love that God planted in my family and it began to bloom once again in me.
