My mother only had one eye. And because of this, I n ever wished her to show up in my school, being afraid that my classmates would   1 I had an ugly mother.

    One day during elementary school, I was terribly ill. My mother came.

  “Your mom only has one eye?!” asked some of my classmates. I was so 2.

    I wished my mother would just 3 from this world. “If you make me teased(嘲笑), why don't you just die?” I shouted at her, taking no notice of the sad look on her face. My mother just handed me some medicine and left without saying 4.

    At that time, I felt 5 to say what I always wanted to say, and I didn't think I had hurt her feelings very much. That nigh t I saw my mom 6 in her room, so quietly, as if she was afraid that she might 7 me. Even so, I hated her tears from one eye. I made a   8: I must study hard and leave my mother.

    Years later my dream came true. I was quite successful and lived 9. I never thought of going back to see my “ugly” mother   10 one day I got a letter, which said, “My son… I'm sorry I only have one eye. When you were little, you got into a(n) 11 and lost your eye. As a mom, I couldn't 12 watching you live with only one eye. 13 I gave you mine. I was never  14 with you and I never regretted(后悔) what I did be cause I 15 you……”

    I cried out aloud. Only then did I realize how beautiful my mother was!

    I had never noticed her. She was not the kind of girl who could draw attention. She was not tall 1 looked ordinary. In class, she liked sitting at the back, reading or writing notes. One day I asked her 2 aloud the text. When I heard her standard （标准） American English, I looked at her with new eyes. And I remembered her name﹣Kelly. Later on, the National College Speech Competition would be held. One student in our school 3 to attend. I thought it over and filled in her name. Kelly practiced 4 for the competition. However, I was a little worried 5 she was always too quiet. Could she really 6 well in the competition?

    7 the night of the competition, I sat in the front row of the hall very early. I told her to take it easy. Her face turned red and she said nothing. 8 seemed that she was really nervous.     I could hardly believe that loud voice came from the girl, who was usually soft-voiced and didn't catch attention at all. She gave a perfect speech.

    I think I will never forget this touching lesson which my student taught me-never underestimate（低估） the power of the 15 people.

    Kierman was born in Sydney, Australia, and grew up near the sea. For more than 40 years, he raced in international sailing competitions.

    In 1987, Kierman was competing in an around-the world race when he began to 1 the huge amount of rubbish in the world's oceans.  When he returned to Australia, he 2 to do something about it.

    He organized a community 3 called "Clean Up Sydney Harbour". On Sunday, January 8, 1989, more than 40,000 volunteers came out to 4away rubbish. The next year, Kierman made the clean-up a national event. It was a huge 5 Across Australia, about 300,000 people spent the day improving their local 6.

    Since then, "Clean Up Australia" has got 7every year. In 2002, for example, 800,000 people cleaned up almost 15,000 tons of rubbish from Australia's beaches, parks and streets.

    Kierman was 8 with the success of his project. In 2003, he started an even bigger program. With the9 of the United Nations Environment Program, he introduced "Clean Up the World", an international program that supports communities around the world in cleaning up and protecting the environment. "Clean Up the World" has grown 10 and his wonderful idea has now spread from one city to the whole world.

    Becky had never been to the theater to see a movie before. She tried to 1 what it would be like. Mum said it was a really big screen. Dad said there were lots of speakers all around. She 2 what else she would, see and hear there.

    It was a long ride to the theater. Once inside, they stopped at the snack bar for a big bag of popcorn they could 3 and a large soda with three straws (吸管) in it. Then they went up to an entrance. A man checked their 4. Becky could hardly breathe. She was so 5!

    They went down a hallway with lots of cool posters and big cardboard advertisements for the newest 6. They found their theater and entered the dark room, going down another short walkway until they saw all of the seats. It was so big inside! "There must be hundreds of chairs," she thought.

    People came in, sitting in rows, eating popcorn and talking 7 the movie started. The lights were turned off soon after, and the screen came on. Wow, Mum sure was-right. Then the movie 8. Dad was right, too! Becky could feel the seats vibrate (振动) with the loud sound. It was an amazing experience.

    Over an hour later with popcorn gone, soda 9, and the movie over, Becky and her parents left the dark room. It was so bright outside. "Well? Did you like it?" Her parents asked as they got back in the car. "That was interesting. Let's come here 10 sometime!" Becky said happily.
