Look! This is a picture of my family. I have a big family. They are grandparents, my parents, my sister and I. The old man on the left is my grandfather. He is a farm worker. He likes flowers. There are many flowers on the farm. The old woman next to my grandfather is my grandmother. She likes cooking. My father is on the right of my grandmother. He is 40 years old. He likes playing basketball with his students. The woman next to my father is my mother. She is a manager of a hotel. In front of them are my sister and I. My sister is a student. We are in different classes but the same grade. She is in Class One, Grade Seven. I'm in Class Four, Grade Seven. My sister likes drawing and I like reading.

    Mr. Jenkins liked all kinds of delicious food. As an important officer, he was often asked to dinner.The shopkeepers tried their best to fawn on(巴结) him. They knew it was good for their business.

    Now the officer got fatter and fatter. He could hardly go upstairs at home and had to sleep downstairs. He often felt tired if he walked or did some housework. He was worried about it and had to go to a doctor. "Stop eating much fat(脂肪) and sugar,Mr. Jenkins," said the doctor,"or it will be worse for your health!" It was difficult for the officer to do it. He wouldn't do as the doctor said. He found something was wrong with his heart a few months later. Now he thought the doctor was right. And he had to be in hospital.

    "You must lose weight(减肥),sir," said the doctor,"unless you want to die soon! .... Could you tell me a way to lose weight,please. "You must do some exercise first."Which exercise?" "To move your head from side to side when you are invited to dinner!"

    "You have saved my horse," Queen Olivia told the young boy standing before her. "Now you shall get a gift for what you did." Peter nervously ran his fingers through his brown hair. That day when he was working in the field, the shocked horse ran past him. Without thinking, he rushed out and controlled it. He didn't know it was the Queen's horse and never expected to get a gift. But he still felt happy for getting one.

    Two of the queen's men appeared. One carried a mirror. Red jewels(珠宝) shone on top of the mirror's silver frame(框架). The other carried a wooden cage with a chicken inside it.

    "Only one gift can be yours," the queen said. "Choose wisely." "That's easy," Peter said. "I'll take the chicken." Some of the queen's men laughed. It was clear that they thought he had made a foolish choice.

    "And why did you choose the chicken?" the queen asked. "Well, I don't know much about jewels," Peter answered. "But I do know about chickens. The chicken will provide eggs for my family for a long while."

    Queen Olivia smiled. "Then you did make a wise choice," she said. "That mirror may look beautiful. But the jewels you see are only colored glass, and the frame is painted silver. The chicken is much more valuable." Peter took the chicken and bowed. "Thank you, your majesty."

    "You are a smart child," the queen added. "I could use a smart boy to help take care of my horses. Would you like to take the job?" Peter smiled. "Thank you very much!" he said excitedly. A job at the castle paid well. Now his family wouldn't worry about their food any more--all because he was kind to help others and smart enough to make the right choice!

    In the dining room stood a large grandfather clock. Meals in that dining room were a time for four generations to become one. Always that clock stood like an old family friend, watching over the laughter and gentle joking.

    As a child, I was amazed at how at different times of the day, that clock would chime(鸣响). I found the clock comforting. Year after year, the clock chimed, a part of my memories, a part of my heart.

    Even more wonderful to me was that my grandfather wound(上发条)that clock with a special key each day, which kept the clock chiming. I remember watching as my grandfather put into the key and wound not too much, never overwind, nor too little. He never let that clock wind down and stop. When we grandkids got a little older, he showed us how to open the door. After my beloved grandfather died, it was several days after the funeral(葬礼)before I remembered the clock！

    Tears flowed freely when I walked into the dining room. The clock stood lonely quiet. Without my grandfather's special touch, I couldn't stand to look at it.

    Years later, my grandmother gave me the clock and the key. The old house was quiet. No laughter and gentle joking over the dinner table, no chiming of the clock-all was still(寂静的). I took the key in my shaking hand and opened the clock door. All of a sudden, I was a child again, watching my grandfather looking at me, at the secret of the clock's magic, at the key that held so much power. Slowly, I put into the key and wound the clock. The dining room and my heart were filled with life and chimes. In the movement of the hands of the clock, my grandfather lived again.

    Several summers ago, Joe Smith, a coach(教练)of a football team, and his family were spending their holidays in a small town. One rainy afternoon, it was impossible for them to go out to do something interesting, so the family decided to go to cinema. Joe, his wife, and their three children walked soon to the town's only cinema, bought tickets and went into the hall. The lights were still on, and there were just six other persons there. As Joe entered, some of them saw him and started chapping(鼓掌).

    Joe gave them a smile and turned to his wife. "Aha, I can't believed they know me and I'm getting a warm welcome here," he guessed. "They saw my games on TV."

    They sat down and then a young man came back and gave out his hand. "Thanks a lot," said the coach. "I just can't believe you know who I am." "All I know," replied the man, "It is that they would not show the film until at least ten people bought tickets."
