Do you go to school every day by bike or in your parents' car? The American English teacher Margaret tells her story about taking a school bus in America.

    When I'm a primary school student, I love taking the school bus. It is interesting to talk to my friends and play games on the bus. It is like children-only party every morning and afternoon. On the school bus there is only one adult（成年人）—the driver. Most of the time, we are well-behaved because we like the driver and don't want to make him unhappy. But one day, one of the boys makes a face at a policeman driving behind our bus. The policeman makes our bus driver stop. Then he scolds（训斥）the naughty boy loudly. We all behave well after that!

    It isn't comfortable for young people to wait for the school bus in winter（冬天） because it is very cold, especially when there are strong winds（风）. Some students in cities have bus shelters（遮挡）, but country children have to jump（跳）up and down to warm up. Hurry up, spring!

Martin is a boy full of questions. He asks questions all day long and{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(hope) to get the answers at once. 

One morning, he looked up at the sky{#blank#}2{#/blank#}asked, "What makes the day? What makes the night? And how?"

"The earth travels around the sun. It turns to face the sun to make the day and turns away from the sun to make the night, "said{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(he) father. "Now please, will you go and play?

But the boy didn't want{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(play). He looked up, down, and all around, and said, I can't feel the earth turning. Why?"

"The earth is so big. We're too small to feel it turn. "Dad replied in a much{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(loud)voice. "Now please, will you go and play{#blank#}6{#/blank#}a moment?"

Martin tried. He played with some{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(toy), and then studied the pictures of the sun and the earth, but questions were still everywhere!

At bedtime, while his mother{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(tell) him a story, Martin couldn't help asking. "{#blank#}9{#/blank#} can see the sun now?

"People on the other side of the earth, "Mom answered gently. "Hmm, "she thought, "maybe he will become{#blank#}10{#/blank#}great scientist in the future. "

Martin lay in his bed and kept on thinking about the sun, the earth, the moon and the stars. 

The moon was behind the clouds. And there weren't many stars in the sky. It was a dark night. I saw a glow (光) in my neighbour's (邻居的) kitchen. I thought he was having a night meal, so I went back to my bed. 

Soon there was a smell of burning (烧焦的味道) in the air and I thought there was something wrong. I jumped out of bed quickly and went out to make sure. I saw a fire coming out of my neighbour's kitchen. Then I shouted, "Fire! Fire!" But no one in the neighbourhood heard my shouts for help. 

I ran into my house, called the firemen and went back to my neighbour's house. I knocked on the door hard and called out my neighbour's name, but there was no answer. Finally, I got into the house and rescued a cat and a dog.

I tried to pour (泼) water through the kitchen window but it didn't work. It was a big fire. Luckily, the firemen arrived about ten minutes later and stopped the fire. 

When my neighbour came back, he was sad for his kitchen but he thanked me for calling the firemen and for saving his pets. He wanted to give me some money but I did not accept it. 

Weeks later, my neighbour had a new kitchen. He invited me to see his new kitchen and we enjoyed a big meal there. It made me very happy. After that, he became my best friend. 

John is a student in a middle school. He likes hamburgers best. He doesn't want to eat fruit or vegetables. So he is very fat. His mother always says to him, "John, you can't be so fat. It's not healthy." But John says, "I'm fine, Mom. I want to eat my favorite hamburgers every day. At school, John doesn't like P.E. and he doesn't want to do sports. Every time he has P.E., he says to his teacher, "I don't feel(感觉) well and I can't have P.E." Then he goes to his classroom and eats food. 

Today John goes shopping with his mother. He wants to buy new clothes, but he is not happy____this time. He finds a nice T-shirt, but he can't wear the T-shirt in a big size. John says to his parents, "I don't want to be fat! And I want to be healthy." His father says he can take him to do sports. His mother says it's useful to eat healthy food. John thanks them for their help.

My mother was a nurse. She left home at 5:45 a.m., so I had to make breakfast and catch the bus by myself. I hated being left home alone in the1 . Mum worked day shifts（上白班）so she could2 me up after school.

One day, when we walked to our car, I saw an old man walking to us. He smiled at us, but I didn't know him.

"Leigh! Leigh!" he said, 3  my mother's name.

"Hello," Mum answered. "How are you feeling?"

"Couldn't be better! Thanks. Now who is this lovely young girl?" he asked 4 .

"This is my daughter," Mum said, looking over to me. "Jenny, can you say hello?" I looked at him and smiled.

"Well, nice to meet you! I hope you know how5 you are!" he said. I looked at him in doubt(怀疑), 6 I had no idea what he was talking about and I didn't feel lucky at all.

"You have the most wonderful mother," he said. "When I was in hospital last month, she took the best care of me. In fact, young lady, I will never 7 her."

I watched the look of joy on my mother's face. I suddenly know what it 8 for my mother to be a nurse. She was caring for those people, often during some of 9 times in their lives. At that moment, I 10  why I stood alone at the bus stop every moment.

One morning, when I was leaving for my business, a middle-aged man came up and asked me for help. He said he had no1   to get food for his large family.

"You look strong.  2 don't you work?" I asked. "Just because I can't get work, sir." If I give you work, what pay do you want?"" 3 I can get bread for my family, sir," he answered.

I decided to find out if he 4 meant what he said. "OK. I'll give you one pound an hour  5  you can carry a brick(砖) under your arm and walk around the square for five hours without  6  ,"I said. "Thank you, sir. I will," he said.

I found a brick and started him walking before I went to my business. I  7  thought he would do what he had promised (承诺).

When I came back five hours later, I saw him  8  walking, with the brick under his arm. I stopped him and gave him9 pounds. He  10  me and told me that some people offered to help him when they knew why he was doing all this. He would go and ask  11 for work. Before leaving, he asked if I would give him the 12  . I did.

Several years later, a well-dressed man greeted me on a train. He said that he was the brick man and had his own business now. "You know, I still keep that brick and always value (重视) it as the most 13  thing I have. Because it has brought me 14 and success."

In fact, it was not the brick that made the man 15 , but his faithfulness (忠诚) in doing even a very little thing.
