“Why do we have to learn about these useless things?” This is what teachers have heard students complain about most  (common). In such cases, we may tell the students such  story:

One night, a group of herdsmen(牧民)were about to leave the campsite when there appeared a flash of bright light. They knew that God would be there, so they looked forward to (get) wishes from God. God (begin)to speak: “You have to collect along the way a number of stones. Tomorrow night, you may be very happy, but you may be very regretful.” Then God disappeared.

The herdsmen were very (disappoint), because they would look forward to God to bring them untold wealth or treasure, but they did not expect that God had told them to do all these meaningful things. However, in any case, after all, that was God's will. Although there  (be) some dissatisfaction, they were still picking over some stones.  this way, they took a day. When night fell, they stopped. All of a sudden, they found that all the stones they picked had turned into  (diamond). They were happy,  at the same time, they felt very sorry, and they regretted that they had not collected more stones.

Now we feel that knowledge is as useless as stones,  may become endless wealth in the future.

One news story about the modem Olympics is about men {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (pretend) to be women to enter the women's events, People are arguing about how fair {#blank#}2{#/blank#} is to test woman athletes to make sure they are not men. One side argues that men are {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (strong), so they will win any women's event. They say that women should be tested to make sure they are not men. The other side argues that this is {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (fair)to women. They say skill is more important than strength. But has this ever really happened? {#blank#}5{#/blank#} answer is yes, several times! The most famous case is that of Dora in the 1936 Olympic Games.

The Olympics {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (hold) in Berlin, Germany, three years after the Nazis came {#blank#}7{#/blank#} power. The Nazis wanted to win lots of events, but they had wrong ideas about race. They did not want black or Jewish people in the German team. But many of their best athletes were Jewish. The Nazis did not let these athletes compete. But that meant they might lose events! One event {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the Nazis thought they might lose was the women's high Jump. So the Nazis sent a male athlete, Hermann Ratjen, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (compete) under the name of “Dora”. Did he win? No. “Dora” came fourth. The {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (win) was a young Jewish woman from Hungary. She jumped 1.60 metres. “Dora” only jumped 1.58 metres. So men do not always win.

"Living within 300 metres of green space {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (associate) with greater happiness, sense of worth and life satisfaction," says a new study. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (use) data from UK government's Annual Population Survey (APS) of 25518 people, the researchers show that people {#blank#}3{#/blank#} live within 300 metres of green space have significantly better mental well-being. "A lot of research focuses {#blank#}4{#/blank#} poor mental health, or single aspect of well-being like life satisfaction. What makes our work different is the way we consider multi-dimensional mental well-being in terms of happiness, life satisfaction and worth," said Victoria Houlden from the University of Warwick.

The study, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (publish) in the journal Applied Geography, found that there is a very strong relationship between the amount of green space around a person's home {#blank#}6{#/blank#}  their feelings of life satisfaction, happiness, and self-worth. Green space within 300 metres of home made the greatest {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (differ) to mental well-being. The study found that access to green space was {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (important) than lifestyle factors such as employment, income and general health. "By {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (combine) advanced statistical and mapping methods, we've shown that the effect is real. {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (basical) we've proven what everyone has always assumed was true," said Scott Weich, Professor at the University of Sheffield.
