Black or White

    When I was in elementary school, I got into an argument with a boy in my class. The teacher  1 to teach us a very important lesson.

    She brought us up to the front of the 2 and placed him on one side of her desk and 3 on the other. In the middle of her desk was a large, round object. I could 4 see that it was black. She asked the boy what color the object was. "White," he 5.

    I couldn't 6 he said the object was white, when it was clearly black! Another

    7 started between my classmate and me, this time about the 8 of the object.

    The teacher told me to go 9 where the boy was standing 10 told him to come stand where I had been. We changed 11, and now she asked me what the color of the object was. I 12 answer, "White."

    It was an object with two 13 colored sides, and from his viewpoint (视角) it was white. Only from my 14 it was black.

    I have never  15 the lesson I learned that day. Sometimes we need to look at the problem from the other person's viewpoint in order to truly understand his / her view.

    A long time ago，there was a king in India．The king's 1 game was chess．

    One day，a wise old man 2 to the palace and the king challenged him to 3 game．The king promised the old man．"You can4 any prize if you win the game．"

    The old man5 ， "If I win the game，I'd like one grain of6for the first square of the chessboard，two for the second，four for the 7 ， and then double the amount for each of the 8of the squares．"

    "Is that all？"asked the king，"Wouldn't you like gold or silver9？"

    "No，just rice．"replied the old man．

    The king and the old man played the game 10  a long time．Finally，the old man won．11  the king ordered his men to collect a bag of rice．He12  one grain on the first square，two on the second，and so on．The king quickly realized the13—even with all the rice in the country，he would14  not have enough rice to put on all the 15 ．

    I was on my way to work. Arriving at the station I found my train was 1 because of the bad weather. I had to 2 for two hours at the bus station. A lady sat beside me. I could notice how 3 she looked. She seemed very worried. I asked her if she was waiting for the next train. She didn't 4 . I asked her again. She replied, "Uhuh. Yes." Then she wiped(擦) her eyes.

    I said, "Hey dear, what is wrong? Why are you crying?" She told me her story. She told me that her father 5 the year before. She used to have a job, but she wanted to look after her sick mother who lived alone, 6 she stopped working. Her family was 7 and she could not pay the doctor's bills (账单) of her mother .Then she said she even planned to kill herself. I was shocked!

    She stayed another half an hour while I tried to comfort her to be brave. I told her I would try to get her a good 8 that would pay well. And I told her to believe she could have a better life.

    I passed her my 9 and asked her to ring me if she needed help. She smiled and said, "Thanks for your 10 and I promise. I won't have any more terrible thoughts. I will live long and well."

    As darkness fell, hundreds of people in the Swiss village left their houses. They were staring（凝视）1at the mountain top in the distance. It was covered with 2 beautiful and dangerous.

    The huge mountain is called Matterhorn. Mountain climbers had 3the top, using the southern route. But no one had ever dared（敢）to try a winter climbing up the 4 side. But now one man was daring to try the 5route. He was Walter Bonatti, a great mountain climber from Italy.

    For two days he had climbed. The village people had watched him anxiously(焦急地). Now they were waiting to see his signal（信号）. If he planned to 6 the next day, he would light a green signal. A red light would mean that he was turning back.

    A tiny green light7 high on the mountain side. Bonatti was not giving up! The people8.

    The next day he continued his way upward. He was so lonely and so 9! But he would not give up. Again that night he lit the10 light.

    In the morning, Bonatti 11. He couldn't see the top, but he knew he was 12 there. Though the climb was painful, he moved up.

    Bonatti had spent months13 for the climb. Was the training enough? Did he have the strength and skill to climb to the top?

     He was finally at the top! News about his 14 was radioed to the world.

    The trip down the southern route was easy. He was warmly welcomed in the village. He had done the"15", and would be well remembered as a climber of all time.

    I have a good friend.  His name is Tom. He is a nice boy, but he eats too1and doesn't like sports.

    He has a big2every morning. He has four eggs,3of bread with butter and 4big glass of milk for it.5lunch, he eats two hamburgers, a lot of French fries6 chicken. He drinks a lot of Coke or soda too. For dinner, he likes beef and salad.

    He7eats beef, chicken, hamburgers and eggs. He likes ice cream, Coke and soda 8.

    Too much food is not9for health. So Tom is very 10.
