牛津版(深圳•广州)2017-2018学年初中英语八年级下册Module 2 Unit 4 单元综合能力检测题(音频暂未更新)

阅读下列短文,从下面每小题的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Popeye the Sailor first became a popular cartoon in the 1930s. The sailor in that cartoon ate lots of spinach (菠菜) to make him strong. People watched him, and they began to buy and eat a lot more spinach. Popeye helped sell 33 per cent more spinach than before! Spinach became a necessary part of many people's diets. Even some children who hated the taste began to eat the vegetable.

Many people thought that the iron in spinach made Popeye strong, but this is not-true. Spinach does not have any more iron than any other green vegetables.

People only thought spinach had a lot of iron because the people who studied the food made a mistake. In the 1890s, a group of people studied what was inside vegetables. This group said that spinach had ten times more iron than it did. The group wrote the number wrong, and everyone accepted it.

Today, we know that the little iron there is in spinach cannot make a difference in how strong a person is. However, spinach does have something else which the body needs—folic acid.

It is interesting to point out that folic acid can help make a person strong. Maybe it was really the folic acid that made Popeye strong all along.

(1)、Why did many people eat spinach after they saw Popeye the Sailor?
A、They thought spinach could make them strong. B、They thought Popeye was funny. C、Spinach had a lot of iron. D、People liked folic acid.
(2)、A research group told people that spinach _______.
A、made Popeye strong B、was a green vegetable C、had less iron than other green vegetables D、had more iron than other green vegetables
(3)、Folic acid is _______.
A、something in food B、a vegetable C、dangerous D、a certain kind of spinach
(4)、The passage says that perhaps Popeye got his strength from _______.

At sharing time, Logan waved(挥)his hand wildly. Ms. Lewis called on him." I lost my tooth," said Logan.

"I remember," said Ms Lewis," It was yesterday.

"You showed us the hole." said Zach.

"Ms. Lewis took your picture for the board, and she gave you the tooth in a little box to take home," said Sammy.

"Yes, but then I really can't find that box anywhere!" said Logan.

"Oh, no!" said Emma." Only when the Tooth Fairy buys the lost tooth from us, can we grow a new tooth."

Logan nodded." What should I do?"

"Maybe you could leave something that looks like a tooth," said Sammy.

"It's worth a try," said Logan.

The first night, Logan left a round white eraser under his pillow(枕头) But it didn't work

Logan reported back to the class. Zach advised to use a puppy tooth instead while Emma suggested white corn.

That night, he put a kernel(谷粒)of white corn. Still nothing happened.

The third night. Logan left a note under his pillow. It said:

Dear Tooth Fairy

I lost my tooth and now I can't find it. Please give me a half﹣dollar anyway.

Logan

In the morning. Logan found a note from the Tooth Fairy under his pillow. He shared the note with his class at school.

Dear logan,

I′d love to give you a half﹣dollar but I need something to show that you really lost your tooth.

The Tooth Fairy

"If you sleep with your mouth open, she will be able to see the tooth hole," said Sammy. The class laughed. Come on! But that just gave me a great idea!" said Logan.

The next day, at sharing time, Logan showed the kids a shiny half﹣dollar.

"How did you get the Tooth Fairy to leave the money?" asked Zach.

Logan said proudly." The photo! I took it home to put under my pillow."
