The chicken and the duck are friends. They live on a 1They often walk around together and talk about many things. One morning, they play and 2near the pool together. The chicken and the duck 3talk about the cat. They think the cat is not 4 because he always looks at them with eyes wide open. “The cat is dangerous, so we must always keep our eyes 5when he is around.”

    Then they talk about the 6The dog is very friendly. The dog has lots of 7 It barks（狗吠） a lot and always runs 8What's more, the dog never runs after them. They both 9the dog.

    At last, they 10the farmer, a fifty-year-old old man. If they don't have the farmer, they have11to eat. He also feeds the cow, the pig, the sheep and many other12 on the farm. They like the farmer because he takes good care of everyone. “He is a 13 man and it's lucky of us to have such a farmer,” the chicken says to the duck 14 “We need the farmer and look forward to living with him forever 15 he can take good care of us all” says the duck. “I hope so” Answers the chicken.

    A group of frogs were jumping through the woods when two of them fell into a big hole. All of the other frogs gathered around the 1  to see what could be done to help their friends.

    When they saw how 2  the hole was, the rest of the group agreed that itwas 3 for the two frogs to get out of the hole. In the beginning, the two frogs 4  with all their strength. Some of the frogs shouted into the hole that is was hopeless, just prepare for the fate(命运), others  5shouted that they two should save their energy and give up. But the two frogs continued jumping as 6as they could, and after several hours of hopeless jump they were quite tired.

    At that moment, one of the frogs gave up. He lay down at the7of the hole, and died as the others looked on his helpless sadness. However, the other frog8to jump with every bit of energy he has, even though he was completely worn out. His friends began a new shouting to him to accept his fate, waiting to die. But the frog jumped harder and harder. Finally he jumped so 9that he got out of the hole.

    The other frogs asked him surprisingly, “Why did you continue jumping when we told you it was impossible?” Reading their lips(嘴唇), the amazed frog explained to them that he was10and when he saw their gestures and shouting, he thought they were cheering him up, so he tried harder and finally succeeded.

    On a snowy evening, a rich lady was standing by the road. She was worried. Her1had broken down. Just then a poor man named Robert came. He was on his way back home from work as usual.

    The lady wondered, “Is the man going to2 me? He looks very cold and hungry.” But to her surprise, he stopped and said with a smile. “What's wrong, madam?” The lady told him what was happening.

    After a while, the car was at last fixed by Robert. The lady wanted to pay him. “No, that is 3madam.” he said, “I was just helping someone in 4 If you really want to pay me back, I hope whenever you see someone in trouble, you should give him a hand.” A few minutes later, the lady 5 a shabby(破旧的)house by the road. She remembered Robert's words, so she stopped. The hostess(女主人)warmly asked her6. The lady could see that was a 7family and that they needed help. When the hostess was making tea in the kitchen, the lady8 500 dollars on a table and went away quietly. Robert came home later than before, thinking how 9 their life was. Their baby was to be born the next month but there was not 10 money. His wife went up to him, gave him a kiss and said softly, “Don't worry, dear! A stranger has helped us out!”

    He was pleased to learn that Chibi knew all the places where the wild grapes and wild potatoes grew. He was amazed to 1 how much Chibi knew about all the flowers in our class garden. He liked Chibi's black and white drawings and put them up on the wall to be. 2 He like Chibi's own handwriting, which no one but Chibi could read, and he put that up on the wall.

    But, when Chibi appeared on the stage at the talent show of that year, no one could 3 his eyes. "Who is that?" "What can that stupid do up there?"

    Until Mr. Isobe announced that Chibi was going to imitate (模仿). the voices of crows. "Voices?" "Voices of crows?"

    4 he imitated the voices of newly hatched (孵化的) crows. And he made the mother crow's voice. Then he imitated the father crow's voice. He showed how crows cry early in the morning. He showed how crows cry when the village people have some unhappy accidents. He showed how crows 5when they are happy and cheerful. Everyone's mind was taken to the far mountainside from which Chibi probably came to school.

    Chibi made very special 6 deep down in his throat to imitate a crow in an old tree in the end. Now everybody could imagine 7 the far and lonely place where Chibi lived with his family. Then Mr. Isobe explained how Chibi had learned those calls- leaving his home for school at sunrise, and arriving home at sunset, every day for six long years.

    Every one of us cried, thinking how much we had been8 to Chibi all those long years.

    He was a boy beyond our usual imagination!
