Four Habits to Help You Succeed Everyone hopes to be successful, whether it's in losing weight or learning the piano. For those who have tried and failed, success seems hard to understand. 1 I've made a list of habits to help you set goals and achieve them.

        Identify your key values.

Finding your key values is in line with (符合) creating inner intention. Sit and think about what you value most. Pick some things and actually write them down.2 Then think about whether you are honoring those values through your work.

Pick a goal and concentrate on it.

Choose one goal to start something large enough that will give you a sense of achievement, while adjusting well to your core values.3 The more focused you are on one goal, the higher chance you have of success. If you perform many tasks at a time, you might never finish your projects because they will take far too long.

        4

Set a date for success. Identify when you hope to achieve your goal. Keep it realistic, while not giving you too much time. By setting a time limit, you are making the process more real.

        Stick to your goal.

Failure can't be avoided when you take risks. By its very definition (定义), the desire to succeed means you are risking failure. Many people tend to give up far too early. Don't fail into this trap! Remember your goal earlier. Know it will happen. A failure is only you working out the details, and learning what works and what doesn't. Use failure.5

    A. Focus is key here.

    B. Make the right decision.

    C. Set a deadline for success.

    D. Treat it as a good thing, and move on!

    E. Remind yourself of your values every day.

    F. Push yourself to be courageous, and take that next step.

    G. Why does one person succeed while another person fails?

It's nice being nice to others; it's also great to give people a hand. However, if you start to hurt yourself by doing so, then this is not so healthy.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}If you fear that you might fall into this category, the following tips will help you to stand up for yourself and regain your self-confidence.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Although you may often stay silent if something is wrong or bothers you, it is better to speak your mind right away. You don't have to be rude, but you do have to be firm and direct. Don't do things for others if you don't really want to. Speak up, and soon others will be seeing you in a whole new light.

        Start small.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}This will allow you to practice being brave and self-confident. Tell a person who has cut in line in front of you to move to the back of the line, or tell a salesperson to do that. Before long, you will be confident enough to stand up to your friends and family members.

        Judge well.

When dealing with others, you have to exercise good judgment. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}If a colleague isn't doing his part, you should rightfully demand that he start doing so. However, if a taxi cuts you off in traffic, just let it go.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Rome wasn't built in a day. If you want to get back again after having been a pushover(耳软心活的人), it's best to take one step at a time.

    A. Express yourself.

    B. Regain your confidence.

    C. Start by speaking up for yourself with strangers.

    D. Everyone has the right to live without being judged.

    E. If you slip back into the pushover mode every once in a while, don't blame yourself.

    F. Sadly, some people are so easily pushed around that they come to be seen as pushovers.

    G. It's one thing to be confident, but quite another to forcefully say no to an unreasonable request.

Entering a university is an important part of a person's life. Today, many people go to a university to study and train for a future job in subjects like law, medicine or education. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} An important one started in Egypt over one thousand years ago.

The world's oldest surviving university, AL-Azhar, is in Cario, Egypt. It was first built as a mosque for religion (宗教寺院) in A.D.972. A few years later, learners and teachers began meeting in the mosque. They read and talked about the subject of religion and law. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Leaders in the city of Cario decided to create a school for higher learning and soon after that, and AL-Azhar University was founded.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} For these teachers at AL-Azhar, they needed to think about what courses to teach and how to teach them. The earliest courses were in law and religion. In a course, students read and studied with the teachers, but there was also free discussion. Often, students and teachers had interesting discussions, and there was no ‘right' answer. In the years that followed, the new university interested scholars from around the world. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} At AL-Azhar, people studied the past, but it was also a place for sharing new ideas.

As is often the case, when we wake up feeling sleepy and with dark circles under eyes, many of us often make a decision: "I'm going to bed earlier tomorrow!" we are so determined. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} We are still absorbed in what we are doing without realizing it is already too late the next day. This behavior is called "bedtime procrastination" (睡眠拖延症), and results from lack of self-control and our body clock.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} According to a study carried out by a group of health psychologists, 53 percent of the 2,400 participants said they didn't follow their sleep schedule, delaying it at least twice a week. They delayed bedtime because they couldn't stop doing other trivial things (琐事), which were keeping them up in the first place.

        People who generally have trouble resisting temptations (诱惑) and following their intentions firmly are also more likely to delay going to bed. They find it hard to control themselves. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Our body clock also plays an important role when it comes to bedtime. Those who get up late are more likely to postpone their bedtime than those who wake early every morning. Night owls would go to bed late at the very beginning of the weekday, even though they had to get up early for work and school. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Therefore, if we want to cure our bedtime procrastination, the intention to go to bed earlier is not enough. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} We should have a clear understanding that bedtime procrastination is a big problem. The choices we make could turn out to be pretty important for our health.

    A. Bedtime procrastination is a common problem.

    B. It will have extreme effect on our health sooner or later.

    C. Yet, lack of self-control is not the only thing to blame.

    D. Unfortunately, chances are that we don't stick to our promise.

    E. It's their special body clock that plays a part in delaying their bedtime.

    F. Biological processes need to support this intention.

    G. So we just need to take action to change our sleep model.
