    One Christmas Eve, old Scrooge and Bob were working busily in his office. It was a cold, foggy day. The fog was so thick that the houses opposite were like ghosts. It was only three o'clock in the afternoon, but it was already quite dark.

    "Merry Christmas, Uncle! God bless you!" cried a happy voice. It was Scrooge's nephew.

    "Bah!" said Scrooge "Humbug(骗人的话)!"

    "Christmas is a humbug! Surely you don't mean that, Uncle." Said his nephew.

    "I do," said Scrooge. "Merry Christmas! What reason have you got to be merry? You're poor."

    "OK, then," replied the nephew cheerfully. "What reason have you got to be sad? You are rich. Don't be angry, Uncle!" said his nephew.

    "What else can I be?" answered the uncle, "I live in a world of fools! Merry Christmas! What's Christmas time to you? It's a time for paying bills without money, It's a time for finding yourself a year older, but not richer. Everyone who goes around saying "Merry Christmas" should have his tongue cut out. Yes, he should!"

    "Uncle! Please don't say that!" said the nephew. "I've always thought of Christmas time as a good time, a kind, and a charitable, happy time. And so, Uncle, Christmas has never put any gold or silver in my pocket, but I think it has done me good. And it will do me good. And I say, God bless it!"

    Bob, standing in the corner of the room, applauded(鼓掌).He realized his mistake very soon, and went quickly bake to his work, but Scrooge had heard him.

    "One more sound from you, Bob Cratchit," said Scrooge, "and you'll celebrate Christmas by losing your job!"

    "Don't be angry with him, Uncle. Come and have dinner with us tomorrow."

    "No." said Scrooge.

    "I'm sorry you don't want to celebrate Christmas. But I do. So a Merry Christmas, Uncle!"

     "Good afternoon!" said Scrooge.

     "And a Happy New Year!" said his nephew.

     "Good afternoon!" said Scrooge again.

    His nephew left the room. He stopped to wish Bob a Merry Christmas. And Bob replied, "A

    Merry Christmas to you, too."

    Tim Berners-Lee is not the most famous inventor in the world．However，his invention has changed our lives．

    He was born in London，England in 1955．When he was a small boy，Tim was interested in playing with electrical things．He studied science at Oxford University．He made his first computer from an old television at the age of 21．

    Tim started working on early computers．At that time，they were much bigger than now．He worked in England then Switzerland．Tim was really interested in two things，computers and how the brain works．How could the brain connect so many facts so quickly？He had to work with people all over the world．They shared information about computers．It was hard to manage all the information．He answered the same questions again and again．took a lot of time．It was even difficult for computers in the same office in Switzerland to share information．Tim also forgot things easily．Could a computer work like a brain？Could it"talk"to other computers？

    There was an Internet already but it was difficult to use．In 1989，Tim Berners﹣Lee invented the World Wide Web（WWW） all by himself．This had a special language that helped computers talk to each other on the Internet．When people wanted to share information with others，they used the World Wide Web．The Internet grew quickly after that．

    Tim Berners﹣Lee doesn't think he did anything special．He says that all of the ideas about the Internet were already there．All he did was to put them together．He says that many other people worked together to make the Internet what it is today．

    Most inventors want to become rich．But Tim gave away the World Wide Web for nothing．He now works in America．He helps people share technology and wants the Internet to be free for everyone to use．Maybe he is the most important but least famous inventor in the world today!

    A shark(鲨鱼)sees a monkey. It says, “Hello, my friend, would you please come to my house? My mother and the others of my family want to see you.”

    “That's very good.” the monkey says, “But I can't swim.”

    “Oh, sit on my back. I'll take you there.” On the way, the shark says, “I must tell you my mother is ill, she wants to eat your heart.”

    “But I'm sorry, I don't bring it with me. I put it in the tree. Take me back and get it.” says the monkey.

    “Let's go back.” shark says.

    When they return, the monkey climbs up the tree and leaves the shark waiting for him in the water.

    The wife asked the husband, “In this life, what did you miss?”

    When she was 25, the husband replied, “I missed a chance of finding a new job.”

    When she was 35, the husband angrily told her that he had just missed the bus.

    At 45, the husband sadly said, “I missed the chance of seeing my closed relative before his last breath.”

    At 55, the husband said disappointingly, “I missed a good chance to retire.”

    At 65, the husband hurried replied, “I missed the dentist's appointment.”

    At 75, the wife didn't ask the husband any more, the husband was kneeling in front of the very sick wife. Remembering the question the wife used to ask him, this time he asked the wife the same question. The wife, with a smile and peaceful look, replied, “①In this life, I didn't miss having you!”

    The husband was full of tears. He always thought that they could be together forever. He was always busy with work. So much that he had never been thoughtful to his wife. The husband hugged his wife tightly and said, “Over 50 years, how I had allowed myself to miss your deep love for me.”

    In the busy city life, there are many people who are always busy with work. These people revolve(旋转) their lives around their jobs. They are unwilling to spend time on health care. They missed the chance to be with their children in their growing up. They neglect(忽略) the loved ones who care for them, and also their health.

    ②Nobody knows what is going to happen one year from now.

    Life is not permanent(永恒的), so always live in the now. Express your gratitude to your loved ones in words. Show your care with actions. Treat every day as the last day of life. In this way, when you are gone, your loved ones would have nothing to feel sorry about.

    Once there was a boy. He loved sweets(糖果) very much. He always asked his father for sweets.

    The boy's father thought hard about how to stop the child asking for so many sweets. There was a saint(圣人) living near their house. The boy's father decided to take the boy to him. He thought he might make the child give up (放弃) sweets.

    So they went to the saint. The father said," Great man, could you ask my son to stop asking for sweets all the time?" But it was difficult for the saint, because he liked sweets, too. Then he told the father to bring his son back after one month.

    During that month, the saint tried to stop eating sweets. At last, he did it. When the boy and his father went back a month later, the saint had a long talk with the boy. From then on, the boy did not ask for sweets any more.

    The boy's father felt surprised and asked, "Why didn't you ask my son to give up sweets when we came to you a month ago?" The saint answered," How could I ask a boy to give up sweets when I loved sweets myself? During the last month, I gave up eating sweets."

    A person's example(例子) is much more stronger(更有力的) than just his words. When we ask someone to do something, we must do it ourselves, too.
