    Starting a new school term is always exciting.It is a chance {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (see) your friends again.But most exciting of all,the new term lets you take up all hobbies.In Britain it is common for students to take up new hobbies after the Christmas holidays.Promising to learn something new is a common New Year's resolution.

    Most schools offer different kinds {#blank#}2{#/blank#} hobby classes.Students  {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (usual)take  them in their free periods or after school.Some classes you have to pay for but some {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (be) free.For example,I once took a free Wednesday evening gymnastics class {#blank#}5{#/blank#} is offered by my school.But when I learnt how to play the drum,my parents had to pay for the lessons.

    The most popular extra classes at my school were piano lessons and drama lessons.Both classes offered exams students could take.Students with many hobbies sometimes felt {#blank#}6{#/blank#} stressed than those without any.But the students with hobbies left school with many extra {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (skill).

    Stephen Hawking, who is one of the famous physicists, was born in Britain on January 8th, 1942.     Pollution takes away all the beauty of the beaches of Hawaii. I hate to go to the beaches on {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(sun) weekends and see rubbish bags{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(lie) on the sand, cigarette butts(烟头）{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(bury) in the sand, and soda cans floating in the ocean.

    Increasingly, Americans are becoming their own doctors by going to diagnose their symptoms, order home health tests or medical devices, or even self-treat their illnesses with drugs from Internet pharmacies(药店).Some avoid doctors because of the high cost of medical care, especially{#blank#}1{#/blank#} they lack health insurance. Or they may stay away because they find it{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(embarrass) to discuss their weight, smoking, alcohol consumption or couch potato habits. Every day, more than six million Americans turn to the Internet{#blank#}5{#/blank#}medical answers— and most of them aren't nearly sceptical enough of what they find. They shouldn't look up “headache” and the chances of finding {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(rely) and complete information, free from a motivation for commercial gain,{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) only one in ten, reports an April 2005 Brown Medical School study. Of the 169 websites the researchers rated, only 16 scored as “high quality”. Recent studies found faulty facts about all sorts of other disorders, causing one research team to warn that a large amount of incomplete, inaccurate and even dangerous{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (inform) exists on the Internet.

    The problem is most people don't know the safe way to surf the Web. “They use a search engine like Google, get 18 trillion choices and start clicking. But that's risky, because almost anybody can put up a site that looks authoritative ( 权威的), so it's hard to know if what you're reading is {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(reason) or not,” says Dr. Sarah Bass from the National Cancer Institute.

    The Chinese invented block printing more than 1, 400 years ago. The original characters were carved on wood and ink was then applied. Block printing is time consuming and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (cost) a lot of manpower and materials. Misprinted characters cannot be {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (easy) corrected. These shortcomings were only overcome after the appearance of movable type printing, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} greatly improved the speed and quality of printing.

    Bi Sheng of the Northern Song Dynasty invented the movable type printing. He carved the Chinese characters on small {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (cube) of sticky clay. He baked them in the fire until they became hard and movable. In the course of presswork, the movable characters were placed into {#blank#}5{#/blank#}, iron frame until it was full. He then took a smooth board and pressed it over the surface so that the block of type became even: Then ink was applied and it was ready {#blank#}6{#/blank#} printing. To be more {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (efficiency), he prepared two iron boards. When one was being used for printing, the other could be used {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (put) characters in order for the next page. The two boards were used alternately.

    Although what Bi Sheng invented was simple when {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (compare) to today's letterpress printing; it already bad the main traits of modem printing. So Bi Sheng's {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (contribute) to printing cannot be overstated.
