I am John. In June 2018, my family took a plane to Manchester. We were going to visit my older sister because she was studying at a university there. 

On the first day, we woke up and took a bus to the airport. It was so early in the morning, so l slept on the bus. When I opened my eyes, we reached the airport. We had breakfast at a cafe there and then got on the plane. 

We reached Manchester in the evening and of course, everyone was very tired. No one felt like talking. 

Although l was tired and hungry, I felt thrilled. My sister and her friend warmly welcomed us and we had some tea at Starbucks. "Wow, I am in Manchester, " I said. You should imagine how great the feelings were. 

After that, we took a train to our apartment (公寓). I am not sure where it was but it was near the train station. I pushed the apartment door, and my mouth turned to an "O" shape. My sister is really good at choosing the best place for us to stay. I ran to a window and I could see Manchester, the park, some buildings, and there you go！ Instead of(代替) watching them on TV, I saw them right in front of my eyes!

Many children use the Internet to get useful knowledge and information, and to relax in their free time. But some of them are not using it in a good way. Here are some rules to make sure you are safe and have fun on the Internet. 

●Make rules for Internet use with your parents. For example, when you can go online, for how long and what activities you can do online.

●Never send a photo of yourself to someone in e-mail unless your parents say it's OK.

●Check with your parents before going into a chat(聊天) room. Different chat rooms have different rules and attract different kinds of people. You and your parents must make sure it's a right place for you. 

●Never agree to meet someone you met on the Internet without your parents' permission. Never meet anyone you met online alone. 

●Always remember that people online may not be who they say they are. Treat everyone online as strangers. 

●If something you see or read online makes you uncomfortable, leave the site(站点). Tell a parent or teacher right away. 

●Treat other people as you'd like to be treated. Never use bad language. 

●Remember—not everything you read on the Internet is true. 

There are many deserts on the earth. And here are some facts you may find interesting. 

What are deserts like?

Deserts can be hot and dry places. Rain may not fall there for months or years. Some deserts are sandy and stony (多石的). Deserts can also be very windy places. The wind can change the shape of the deserts. It moves sand around from place to place. 

Temperatures in the deserts can vary very much. During the daytime, the temperature may reach 40℃ even in the shade (阴凉处). At night, deserts can become very cold. In winter there may even be a frost(霜冻) in the early morning. 

Living in the deserts

The camel is sometimes called"the ship of the desert". It stores food in its hump (驼峰) and can go for days without water. It has large feet which help it not to fall into the soft sand. Its long eyelashes keep out the sand during sandstorms. 

An oasis is an area of the desert where water may be found. The water may be in pools or under the ground. People and animals visit an oasis to find something to eat and drink. Plants grow at an oasis. Some farmers are able to grow crops there. 

The Arabian Desert

The Arabian Desert lies between the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. In some parts of the desert, it is too hot for people to live. Oil was discovered under parts of the desert. This oil has made some countries in the area very rich. Much of the money has been spent building fine cities with lovely parks and lakes, and people live a comfortable life there. 

How Not to Be Awkward

Not all of us are outgoing and ready to take the world by storm. Many among us are shy and may even feel kept apart from others. This usually happens when a person is still in his or her teen years and going through the socialization process. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Let's try to find answers to the questions. 

Stay in shape and dress up well

Sometimes, awkwardness could be due to being overweight. When you are large in size, you tend to get very self-conscious So, in order to avoid this, get into the habit of exercising every day {#blank#}2{#/blank#} If you look as if you have just stepped out of a 1980's film when actually it is 2011, there is no doubt that you are bound to feel awkward about yourself. 

Be optimistic

Another effective tip on how not to feel awkward is to always keep a smile on your face. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} On the other hand, a smiling, happy and positive think person is appreciated by everybody So, smile when you meet acquaintances or even strangers, say a cheerful "Hi" and automatically some of your awkwardness will disappear completely!

This one really helps. Awkwardness generally develops when a person remains isolated from others. So, in order to change this situation, join groups. For instance, if you are a reading lover, join a book club. Joining people in book reading sessions as well as debates will help remove your awkwardness. Choose any activity of your choice, such as playing team sports or joining a dance class, and soon you will find your comfort level around people increasing day by day!

Develop your personality

Being a book-worm or an Internet addict will not get you anywhere. For self-improvement, take up a hobby that adds meaning to your life. Learn singing or try adventure sports. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
