Mr. Young has a big shop in the center of the city. He tells all his employees（雇员） to be1 to the buyers and he gets a lot of2. One day an old woman went to the shop to3a silk blouse. When she came out of the shop with the blouse, she 4her wallet in it. A girl picked it up and5there were nearly five hundred dollars in it. She looked around and 6 saw it.     Mr. Young asked him the other questions, and the young man's 14 satisfied him. Before he employed him, he asked him 15 question, "You have no shortcoming(缺点), do you?" "No, I don't, sir. " said the young man. "I only like telling lies.”

    When Jane was a little girl, she liked keeping pets. She had many books about animals and there were many pictures and stamps on the walls of her bedroom. She often said that she would work in a 1 when she grew up.

    Most of Jane's pets were quite small — parrots, cats, dogs and so on. But one day she met something quite 2 .

    That afternoon, Jane's mother was surprised to see a big animal with long hair in the kitchen. He 3  a T-shirt and was sitting on a chair, trying to put on a pair of glasses and making faces at her. In front of him, on the table, were a basket of fruits and a glass of water. “Jane, where are you?” the mother shouted. Then suddenly she remembered that a few days before a young gorilla (大猩猩) called Gor had run away from the zoo.

    “I found him in the city square,” Jane said. “He seemed so lonely. I talked to him. We became friends at once and he followed me 4 .”

    “Well, you know you 5  keep him,” her mother said. “You must send him back to the zoo. You'd better phone the police.”

    Soon a 6  came and also a truck from the zoo. 7  was angry with Jane when she told her story. The policeman knew Jane loved animals. And the zookeeper said, “Thank you for your kindness (好意). I can see Gor likes you, 8  we need him back.” Jane agreed. She hugged Gor and said that she would go and see him 9 .

    These days Jane has stopped collecting 10 , but you can still find her with her friend Gor at the zoo on Saturdays and Sundays!

    Ashley Smith is a 26-year-old single mother with a daughter.     I was always busy and had too many things to do. Whenever my daughter caused me to change my plans, I thought to myself, "We don't have time for this." So the two words I always said to her were: 1.

    The other day, the two of us rode to a supermarket near our home. After shopping I bought her an ice cream, and she sat down at a table 2, looking at the ice cream in her hand. Suddenly a 3 look was on her face. "Do I have to eat it up in a hurry, Mum?"

    Then Alice saw a small glass table. There was a little golden key on it. She picked it and put it in all the locks on the doors but it didn't open any of them. She moved a curtain on one of the walls and discovered another door, a very small one. She put the key in the lock. It was exactly the right size! She opened the door and looked through it. At the end of a low passage she saw a beautiful garden. It was full of brightly coloured flowers and fountains.

    "Oh, how beautiful!" she said. "I'd love to go there but I'm too big to get through the door."

    She walked back to the table. There was a bottle on it now.

    "I'm sure that bottle wasn't there before," she said, a little confused.

    She put down the key and picked up the bottle. She read the words "DRINK ME" on it. Alice wasn't a stupid girl. She didn't drink it immediately. First she looked at the bottle carefully. There wasn't a label on it that said "POISON".

    So she put the bottle to her lips and drank.

    "Mmm, ifs nice," she said. It tasted like cherry tart, pineapple, roast turkey and toast-all the things that she liked to eat-so she drank some more. And some more. Soon the bottle was empty.

    "What a curious feeling," she said. "I'm getting smaller and smaller.'" It was true! She was now as small as her cat Dinah.

    "Good! I can go through the door into the garden," she said. But, poor Alice! When she got to the door, she didn't have the key! It was on the table. She couldn't reach it because she was too small now. She sat down and cried.

    After a while she said, "Alice! Stop crying! Crying doesn't help! Dry your tears immediately!"

    When she looked at the table again, she saw a small glass box under it. She picked it up and opened it. There was a small cake inside. It had the words "EAT ME" on it. She put a small piece of it in her mouth.

    "If I grow bigger I can reach the key," she thought. "And if I grow smaller I can go under the door."

    But nothing happened so she finished it.
