Hi, my name is Murray Wenzel. But my friends call me Muz, Muzza, Wenz or even Moon. Yes, I have lots of nicknames. But in Australia, where I am from, that's quite common.

In fact most men in Australia call their friends something other than their real name. It is part of our culture to shorten or make up names for those we know and love. For example, one of my friend's names is Alex, but we call him Al. Another is named Jayson, but everyone knows him as Jase. In Australia most men called William are known as Bill, while Jeremy is Jez, James is Jim and Joseph is Joey.

Sometimes we use the person's surname in their nickname, like my friend Karl Schussig who we call Schuzza. Sometimes we combine them, like my friend Troy Cassels being called TC. And we sometimes make up a new name for our friends. My friend Nathan's nickname is “Prez”, because when we first met he joked that I should call him “El President”.

Even more confusing is when we are given ironic(讽刺的) nicknames. For example, a man with red hair will be known as Bluey, a tall man will be called Shorty or a large man will be known as Slim.

Most of my friends call me Muz, but those who I play hockey(曲棍球) with call me Moon. However, my parents still call me Murray.

So, I have different names depending on who I am talking to. Nicknames are so popular that sometimes people forget what the person's real name is.

I think it is our way of showing affection to those we are close to.

At 9:30, Rose said, "I hate going to bed. I want to stay up and watch a show!" At 6:00 in the morning, her alarm clock went off. Her mother heard her say, "The only thing I hate more than going to bed is getting up in the morning!"

What does Rose have in common with thousands of kids? She is not getting enough sleep. Have you ever stayed up late? If you have, you know that not getting enough sleep can make you feel tired and upset. You may have even noticed that it's hard to think clearly and stay focused when you are overtired(过度疲劳).

Need some motivation(动力) to go to bed on time? Here are some important advantages (好处) of getting a good night's sleep. After a good night's sleep, we are more energetic, smarter and even happier.

Do you like to play sports? It has been shown that football players, swimmers and tennis players all perform better after a good night's sleep. Your coach(教练) may not tell you this, but the simplest way to improve your performance is to get enough rest.

Do you want to improve your grade? Healthy sleep habits improve your memory and your ability to pay attention to tasks, making schoolwork seem easier. While you get a snooze, your mind is very busy so you don't get a good rest like a long sleep. Researchers(研究者) have found that it's easier to learn after a good night's rest. So, it's no surprise that students who get enough sleep get better grades than those who don't.

Science and experience have shown that getting a good night's sleep is the key to success in whatever you do. Get a good night's sleep. You're worth it.

I was lonely when I was in high school because I went to a new school far away from my home. In the beginning, some naughty students often laughed at me because of my poor English, so I always tried to avoid them.

Soon I went to university. I was a poor student and I only had $20 for two weeks. I had to hide the truth carefully because I was afraid to be laughed at again. I ate little every day. One day, Joe, a classmate of mine, invited me to help him cook and then shared the completed dishes with him. Since I was not familiar(熟悉)with him, I refused him at first. But after some consideration, I decided to go. I used to cook at home, and I thought I could do it, but I was still full of worry. If he didn't like my cooking, what should I do? Later, it turned out to be a success. Then Joe wished me to make it a daily routine. It went like this. He did the shopping and I did the cooking. And then I stayed to have dinner with him.

It was not until graduation that I knew the whole story. Joe discovered my situation two years ago. In order not to hurt my pride, he came up with this idea just to make it much easier for me. When I cooked the last meal for him, I ordered a big cake and said to him with tears, "My dear friend, you and your help really brighten my college life. I'll never forget that."

I'm Tony. From a young age, I began to love skiing.I have skied since I was eight or nine years old. But once in the USA I was close to death.

It was April 1st, 2011. I skied in the Tetons with my friends Jeremy and Xavier. While I was skiing, they were watching me in a safe area, Then I turned  around and saw the whole mountain start to move behind me. It was a massive avalanche. Thousands of tons of snow was coming down the mountain behind me. I felt that the snow pushed me forward hundreds of meters,and then covered me.

It was so heavy that I couldn't move. And then it pushed me forward again.

I looked down into the bottom of the valley(山谷).  "OK, I'm going all the way to the bottom! " I thought. Then the snow pushed me again down the mountains. I thought the snow would destroy me. But in the end, I felt the avalanche slow down and I just jumped out of the snow at the bottom of the valley.

It took Jeremy and Xavier about 20 minutes to find me. They couldn't believe it when they saw me. I was so lucky.

Has the experience changed me? Do I think about life differently? I don't know, but I do know that it's important to live your life seriously. Life is a gift, so use it wisely.
