Young people and older people don't always agree with each other. They sometimes have {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  ideas about work and life. But in one special program in New York State, adults and teenagers live together in a {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  way.

      Each summer 200 teenagers and 50{#blank#}3{#/blank#}  live and work together for eight weeks as a group. Everyone works several hours each day. Some teenagers work in the forest or on the farms. Some learn to make things like tables and chairs and build houses. The adults {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  them theses skills.

      There are several free hours every weekday. Weekends are free, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} . During the free hours, some of the teenagers learn photo taking or painting. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} sit around and talk or sing. Each teenager chooses his own way to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} his free time.

      When people live together, rules are necessary, In this program the teenagers and the adults make the rules together. If someone breaks a {#blank#}8{#/blank#} , the problem is brought to the whole group. They talk about it and ask, “How did it happen? {#blank#}9{#/blank#}  should we do about it?”

      One of the teenagers says about his experience, “{#blank#}10{#/blank#}  stop thinking only about yourself. You learn to think about the group.”

A: Where will you live in the future?

B: {#blank#}1{#/blank#}I'll live in the village.

A: Why do you think so?

B: Because cities will be more crowded and  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

A: How do you deal with the  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}then?

B: I'd like 1to plant more trees and flowers.

A: But I'd like to live in cities. I think  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}in cities is better.

B: Do you think the environment will be better?

A: Yes. Our government and our people will do something  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}to protect it.

    Making decisions quickly is not an Arab custom. Arabs like to think for a long time before making a decision. Give yourself lots of time and ask lots of questions when you do{#blank#}1{#/blank#}with them.

    When an Arab says "yes", he may mean "maybe". When he says "maybe", he{#blank#}2{#/blank#} means "no". You will hardly get a direct "no" from an Arab because it is{#blank#}3{#/blank#}to be impolite. A smile and a nod might seem like an agreement, but{#blank#}4{#/blank#}, your host is just being polite. An Arab considers it impolite to disagree with a guest.
