Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at Stanford Hospital, I got to know a little girl {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(name) Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion（输血）{#blank#}2{#/blank#}her 5-year-old brother,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to fight the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(ill).

    The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for a moment {#blank#}5{#/blank#}taking a deep breath and saying, “Yes, I'll do it {#blank#}6{#/blank#}it can save Liz.”

    {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(see) the color returning to her cheeks. Then {#blank#}9{#/blank#}face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away?”

Being young, the boy had{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(understand) the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood.

    Can you imagine waking up each day in a house that is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (gentle) rocked by the movement of water? Well, for some people this vision of the future may become a reality.

    It is a commonly accepted fact that {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the Earth's temperature rises, the ice caps at the North and South Poles will melt, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (cause) the sea level to rise.

    So, where does this leave the many countries in the world {#blank#}4{#/blank#}have large sections of their populations living in areas which lie at or below sea level? The Netherlands, for example, is one of {#blank#}5{#/blank#} most highly populated, low-lying countries and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (battle) with the problem of flooding for years. Further rises in the sea level would result in much of the country disappearing under water.

    Inventive architects may have come up with a {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (solve) to the problem: a house actually built on the water. The basic idea is that houses will have a base {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (fill) with air and a way of anchoring(使固定) them to the ground. This will allow the house {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (move) upwards whenever the sea level rises and sink back down when the sea level drops. So, will {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (float) houses be the homes of the future? For some people there may be no alternative.

    The Warwick Cheese Festival takes place in June every year. This annual event is the biggest cheese festival in North America, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (attract) tens of thousands of Canadians and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (visitor) from all over the world. The painting {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (display) for the first time back in 2005 to celebrate the museum's 80th anniversary. Such {#blank#}8{#/blank#} rare sight is expected to draw huge crowds.  In addition, the museum will also display exhibits from other {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (country).

    During the past few years, the Palace Museum has been working hard to get the public familiar with the history and culture of the Forbidden City. And it seems that these efforts have been paying off, with its popularity reaching a new height. Over 17 million people visited the museum in 2018, of {#blank#}10{#/blank#} 40 percent were under 30 years old.
