    “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”, so when you want to do business in France, you have to get to know French culture, to make marketing plans, and to run your business by local laws.

    The French take great pride in their language, so anyone who does not speak it may run the risk of being disrespected by his French colleagues or business partners. Also, another reason why learning French is important is that it is a great way to show every possible French business partner that you care and respect their country's culture and language.

    There are obvious ways of greeting people in French. When you meet someone new, it's usual to shake his hand firmly and always look at the person in the eye.

    Dress well. Your business clothing is a reflection of your success and social status. Always try to be stylish. Women are advised to dress simply but elegantly. Wearing make-up is practiced widely by business women.

    The French are passionate about food, so lunches are common in doing business in France, which usually consist of an appetizer, main meal with wine, cheese, dessert and coffee, and normally take up to two hours

    Do not begin eating until the host says, “Bon appetite”. Pass dishes to the left, keep wrists above the table and try to eat everything on the plate This may suggest that you find the food tasteless. If eating in a restaurant, the person who invites always pays.

A. The French draw information about people based on their appearance.

B. This is a time for relationship building.

C. Maybe you have heard the expression.

D. Language should be the focus of anyone planning to do business in France.

E. Be careful with adding salt, pepper or sauces to your food.

F. When you meet a friend, kissing is common.

根据短文内容,从下面所给的A—F选项中选出能概括每一段主题的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余项。

A. Give more aid to weak schools.

B. Children should share the same educational rights.

C. Heavy load is supposed to be taken off the students' shoulders.

D. Bring the industrial management of education to an end.

E. Balanced education may stop school choice.

F. Key schools and classes are unreasonable.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Education should be intended to make better citizens instead of making money. Money can be earned by starting business. It's time to abolish(废除,消灭) the industrialized education so that all the people can benefit from real education.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Concrete(具体的) measures should be taken to lessen the students' heavy burden. Not empty talks but concrete and solid policies can make sure all the students grow soundly.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}My parents are farmer-turned workers. I think we should be treated equally with the local children. We should have equal chance to go to both the local public schools and take the national college entrance exam rather than go back to our native places.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}School choice has become a serious educational problem. To solve this problem, we must stick to the balanced development. The government should offer more support to weak schools and have all the teachers exchange their work among all the schools.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} The government's unwillingness to spend enough money on education makes key schools turn to parents for money to build new buildings and increase teachers' income, widening the gap between key schools and common schools. Therefore, in order to realize the balance of education, the government should offer more help to weak schools.

Four Secrets to Steve Jobs' Success

    How is it that a college dropout, who was once kicked out of his own company, became one of the world's foremost innovators?

    Carmine Gallo lists the four ways Jobs managed to succeed in the face of discouraging circumstances. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    Do what you love, no matter what it happens to be.

    This is what Jobs told Stanford University graduates in a speech in 2005, Gallo says the famous talk show host Rachael Ray agrees with this advice. Rachael Ray does what she loves. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  She did that because she loved cooking.

    Say no to 1000 things.

    Simplifying his business was the key to Jobs' success, Gallo says. In 1997, when Jobs returned to Apple, Apple was close to bankruptcy(破产). He took 300 products and condensed them to 10 within a two-year period.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}  In his latter years, he decided he would wear the same dress every day so that he didn't have to think about it.

    Kick-start(启动)your brain by doing something new.

    Doing new things helped Jobs, in the words of Apple's own slogan, “Think differently.”

    The inspiration for the Apple Store came from the Four Seasons Hotel. That's why when you walk into an Apple Store, you will not find a cashier. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  Walk to the back of the store and there's a bar. It doesn't serve alcohol, but it collects advice.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    “For Jobs, it wasn't just about selling 29 million iPads this summer but entertaining the customer at the same time,” Gallo says. “Whether you run a multi-billion dollar tech company or a pizza restaurant, innovation means creating a new experience for your customers,” Jobs says.

A. Do what you are curious about.

B. Create fresh experiences.

C. Instead, you'll find a doorkeeper.

D. Carmine Gallo says that you can do the same.

E. She was giving cooking lessons at Macy's for free.

F. Simplicity also extends to Jobs' personal life.

G. Jobs explained that iPad was not just a phone but a lifestyle.

    Researchers define self-control or self-discipline as "ability to control or change one's inner responses". {#blank#}1{#/blank#} However, some people think that as an immediate consequence of leading lives of constant self-control, they aren't likely to gain a lot of pleasure from life.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} To start, 414 adults completed on online survey. In the survey, they rated their self-control by indicating how much they agreed with 14 statements, such as "I indeed do certain things that are bad for me, if they are fun."

    In their study, 205 adults were given smart phones and required to report their emotions at random moments throughout the week. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If so, they had to report how hard they tried to resist them, and whether they eventually ended up acting on them.

    The researchers found that the more self-control people had,the more satisfied they were with their lives in the long run. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} In fact, such people's increased happiness to a large extent accounted for the increased life satisfaction.

    These researchers also figured out that people high in self-control are simply less likely to find themselves in situations where that's even an issue. They don't waste time fighting inner battles over whether or not to eat a second piece of cake. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} And that, it would seem, makes them happier……even if occasionally a little bit sad.

A. In a word, they are not bothered about such little desires.

B. Researchers checked these general ideas through a survey and study.

C. It is generally believed that in the long run self-control can make people happier.

D. Meanwhile, they were also asked to report whether they were experiencing any desires.

E. However, people with more self-control were also more likely to be happy in the short run.

G. Most adults reported they failed to control their desire to play video games before an exam.

    You probably know that exercise is the key to reducing depression, but you might not know why. Here are some tips for exercising when you're depressed.

    Change your view of “exercise”.

    Forget “exercise”. Instead, think “being active” or “having fun”. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Besides, it gives you a bigger benefit.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Taking part in physical activities with others supports you in doing those activities. Ask friends what activities they're doing or they would like to start doing, and join them. Other choices include hiring a personal trainer, joining an exercise group or going to a class.

    Try an experiment.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Or go to the gym every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Even if you're feeling too tired to do any actual exercise, still go to the gym, park your car, walk in, chage into workout clothes, and pick up a 5-pound weight. If you're really so tired that you don't want to do anything else, that's totally fine.

    Take it outside.

    Nature has a great effect on our feeling and decreases depressive symptoms. Even just looking at images of lakes and trees helps. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Or walk on a treadmill (跑步机) by a window.

    Tie it to a goal.

    Korb said, “When you connect your exercise to a long-term goal, it helps your brain forget momentary discomfort and makes your exercise more satisfying.” For example, Korb started getting active because it made playing sports more enjoyable. Figure out what's truly important to you. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. Move with someone else.

B. Sign up and go to exercise classes.

C. It's a lot easier to do something simple.

D. Remind yourself of your goal regularly.

E. Remember your partner to keep you company.

F. Take a walk around your neighbourhood or a local park.
