I have tried to write a ghost(鬼魂) story that won't make you unhappy with yourselves, with each other, with the seasons,or with me.I hope it haunts(飘荡) your houses pleasantly.

By Charles Dickens One Christmas Eve,old Scrooge and Bob were working busily in his office. It was a cold, foggy day.The fog was so thick that the houses opposite were like ghosts. It was only three o'clock in the afternoon, but it was already quite dark.

    "Merry Christmas,Uncle!"cried a happy voice.It was Scrooge's nephew(侄子).

"OK,then,"replied the nephew cheerfully."What reason have you got to be sad?You are rich.Don't be angry,Uncle!"said his nephew.

"What else can I be?"answered the uncle,"I live in a world of fools!Merry Christmas! What's Christmas time to you? It's a time for paying bills without money?!It's a time for finding yourself a year older, but not richer.

Everyone who goes around saying 'Merry Christmas' should have his tongue cut out.Yes,he should!"

"Uncle! Please don't say that!"said the nephew."I've always thought of Christmas time as a good time,a kind, and a charitable(慈善的)and happy time. And so,Uncle,Christmas has never put any gold or silver in my pocket, but I think it has done me good. And it will do me good.I'm sure."

Bob,standing in the corner of the room, applauded. He realized his mistake very soon, and went quickly back to his work, but Scrooge had heard him.

"One more sound from you,Bob Cratchit,"said Scrooge,"and you'll celebrate Christmas by losing your job!"

"Don't be angry with him,Uncle.Come and have dinner with us tomorrow."said Scrooge's newphew.

    "No."said Scrooge.

I'm sorry you don't want to celebrate Christmas.But I do.So a Merry Christmas,Uncle!"

    "Good afternoon!"said Scrooge.

"And a Happy New Year!"said his nephew.

Jane Austen(1775-1817),an English novelist, started writing young and completed six novels in her life. Today Austen's books are more popular than ever. In the last 10 years, five of her six novels have been made into Hollywood films, while her books continue to be best-sellers.

Richard Jenkyns, a professor of English at Oxford University, says that her novels are about marriage, friendships and the family, which are still with us today. “The stories are timeless," Jenkyns said.

Pride and Prejudice(偏见)(1813) is Austen's most famous work. It is a love story about Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. At first, these two dislike each other. Elizabeth is pretty ,smart and lively. She is proud because Darcy doesn't know about her family.  Mr. Darcy is handsome, rich and has a better family background. So, he is proud as well. At the same time, Darcy holds a prejudice against the Bennet family. He has no understanding of why the family, especially its mother and daughters should try so hard to find wealthy and powerful husbands. He thinks they are vulgar. Anyway, Elizabeth and Darcy finally fall in love and become a romantic couple but their families don't want them to.

In Pride and Prejudice, some of the main things that Jane Austen wants to teach people are as follows.  Opposites can attract each other. Lovers should not ony make each other feel relaxed or comfortable, but also educate and improve each other.

Austen is often called the greatest romanti writer, so it is surprising she remained unmarried. "Maybe she was too romantic, waiting for the perfect man,”Jenkyns says.

Some time ago I received a gift from both of my children. It had nothing to do with Father's Day. Yet, at the same time it had everything to do with Father's Day.
My son was studying in a high school in Colorado. He lived in the school. While we were talking on the phone he shared some wonderful news with me.
He said, “You know Dad, I am really happy with my life. I can't think of a thing that I would change about the way that I grew up, or the way that my life is now. ”
My daughter was living with her mother in Northern California at that time. She said almost the same thing to me just a few days later.
Of course, I was delighted to hear this from both of them. And I told them both how happy I was, not only that they were happy ,but that they expressed it to me.
And that was the gift that they were giving me —with the heart to communicate. Certainly I hope for good news when I hear from them. But mostly I love that they will share their real feelings with me. Happy or sad, I love to be touched(感动)by their real thoughts and feelings.
For a child, Father's Day isn't really about giving Dad a gift. It is about understanding the love that fathers express when they help put food on the table, teach their child to ride a bike, cheer at a soccer game, etc.
For a father, Father's Day isn't so much about receiving gifts for a job well done. Remember, the greatest gift that we give our children is the real expression of our love. It isn't enough for them to feel love inside ourselves: we need to express that love.

I' m ready to do my first jump 10 months after a skydiving (特技跳伞) accident. I can't wait! That accident almost killed me and it made me stay in hospital for half a year. During the boring long days, I didn't feel glad to be alive. I was wondering how I could live without my favorite sport.

It all started one evening after a nine-to-five day. I was sitting on the sofa when an ad (广告) came on the television. "Try skydiving," it said. The next day, I went to the skydiving school in my town. At the end of the day's lessons, I knew I found the fight sport for me.

I will never forget my first jump. Five of us walled to the runway and got into a plane. I was scared, but the others were tailing and joking, and I started to feel a little relaxed. It was a beautiful, cloudless day and the sun was just going down. Soon it was time to jump. As I jumped from the plane, I shouted. But then everything became quiet. It was the most wonderful four minutes of my life.

From the first jump, I was hooked. I started spending all my free time skydiving . It became my reason for living. Things were going really well. Then an accident happened on my 104th jump. I broke my both legs, right arm and nose. I stayed in hospital for six months, but I still couldn't forget skydiving.

My mother couldn't understand why the only reason I wanted to get better was to go skydiving again. But for me, skydiving is life, and life is skydiving.
