    When people have a choice of whom to work with, likability can sometimes matter a little bit; more than ability, said Tiziana Casciaro, an associate professor at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management,who researches likability in the workplace . These strategies can help:

    You can induce a sense of similarity with almost anybody by finding things you have in common. They may not be apparent right away, so be observant. Great salespeople do this all the time by studying potential customers for bits and pieces of their lives they can relate to.

    Like someone and they'll like you right back

     Flattery (奉承)can convey fondness, but she doesn't recommend using the fake kind, even though it may work. Casciaro said, u Flattery' that is completely made up is exhausting and morally blameworthy. Instead, let a praise come from a real place For instance,I really appreciate what you did yesterday.

    When you give people praises, it goes a very long way towards their liking you back.

    Be a familiar presence

    Humans like things that are familiar, so just seeing you around in person makes you more likable to others. “This concept gives a whole new meaning to the idea of face time,” Casciaro said If not, just try to talk to people as much as possible in person during work hours, she advised You want to maximize rich interactions and cut down on the drier ones, like texts and phone calls. Be sure to be seen.

A. Ask a lot of questions.

B. See the positive in a person and express it to him.

C. People like to guess what others think about them.

D. What can you do to increase your chances of being liked?

E. Find the common points that link you with another person.

F. It's almost irresistible that we like people who seem to like us.

G.Go to after-work drinks if you have time and you would find the outing enjoyable.

    You are one of the most familiar faces in class, not because you are funny or have great note-taking abilities but because you ask the most number of questions.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} It is important to have a good way to ask questions. Here are a few tips for improving your questioning skills:

    Be clear about what you want to know.

    Be clear about what you want to know and frame your question accordingly.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} If you beat around the bush, your teachers won't be entirely sure what it is that you haven't understood, or need an explanation for.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}If you are uncertain about a particular subject, make it clear when it is being discussed. If you put your question in context (语境), you can be sure of it. Because questions often open up new avenues within a subject, doing this would benefit the whole class.

    Don't hesitate to talk to your teacher after class.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Therefore, if you feel uncomfortable about asking a question in front of your classmates, wait till the class is over. This will probably put you more at ease.

    Write down your questions.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} They may appear when you're studying, reading or taking notes. Note them down on a piece of paper so that you won't forget to ask them later. This can also make sure that you don't have any unanswered questions when the exam approaches.

A. Don't ask more questions once a time.

B. Questions may appear at any time.

C. Being curious is not a bad quality.

D. You may think it is good to ask no questions.

E. Ask questions related to the context.

F. A question needs to be easy to be understood and to the point.

G. One-to-one interactions (互动) are always much better than one-to-many.

    Be a Green Child

    What does it mean to be green? “Green” is more than just a color.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Why green? Plants are green, and without them the Earth wouldn't be such a lovely home for us human beings. What can we do? Here's a four-step guide to being green.

    Reduce It!

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} For instance, a shorter shower means you used less water and less fuel since your house uses to run the heater that warmed up the water.

    Reuse It!

    Sometimes people call ours a “throwaway society”. It means that we're a little to willing to throw away old stuff (东西) and buy new stuff.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    For instance, if your baby brother becomes older and loses interest in his plastic basketball hoop (篮圈), why not give it to another family who has a little kid?

    Recycle It!

    Recycling has never been easier. Many communities will pick it up right in front of your house and some towns even require it. Recycled goods go to a recycling center, where they can be turned into new cans, bottles, and paper.

    Enjoy It!

    It's true that rubbish and pollution are problems, but the Earth remains a huge and beautiful place that's ready for you to explore.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Go for a hike, visit local nature centers and gardens, and climb up mountains.

    But before you travel the globe, take a look at your own backyard. Is there a spot where you could plant a tree or put in a little fruit or vegetable garden? {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. It also means taking special steps to protect the environment.

B. Many times, even if you no longer need something, someone else just might.

C. You can start locally by visiting the naturally beautiful spots in your city.

D. Turn off the water when you're brushing your teeth.

E. Get out there and get your hands dirty.

F. You can watch with pride as your tree takes root and your garden plants grow.

G. When you use less of something, you do a good thing for the Earth.

    Identical twins are born when an egg divides into two, resulting in the birth of two children with identical genes. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Some believe, however, that there is also a close connection between twins in the way they think, not just in the way they look. Twins finish each other's sentences, and share the same tastes in clothes or music. Some have argued that identical twins have mysterious, even psychic, powers.

    Although many identical twins claim to know what the other is thinking, there is no evidence to suggest that this is because of special powers. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Most of us have met up with a brother or sister, or close friend, and immediately asked, “What's wrong?” because we have unconsciously recognized, in their facial expression, that they are upset in some way. Signs we would miss in a stranger's behavior are instantly obvious in the way those close to us act. It is hardly surprising that twins notice the way their brother or sister's facial expressions or body language gives away how they feel. Indeed, the closeness of their bond is likely to improve this ability over the years.

    The media is full of stories in which a twin senses her brother or sister to be in trouble. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Damien Croft developed a bad headache one evening and, concerned, felt the need to phone his brother to check if everything was OK. When there was no reply, he drove to his brother's home, only to find him unconscious, having had an epileptic fit (癫痫症) and fallen from a ladder while decorating. On the face of it, his sixth sense had saved the day. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Damien knew his brother was decorating, and knew that he was prone to epileptic fits. Subconsciously concerned, he had just imagined the worst-case situation. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. We all know such twins are often very similar in appearance.

B. The fact that something awful had happened was only a coincidence.

C. In contrast, there are many other stories which can be more easily explained.

D. In truth, of course, the events might also be explained in more ordinary terms.

E. Recent studies show the reasons of all those cases of mysterious happenings between identical twins.

F. In a recent, widely-reported case, for example, a young man survived a horrific fall thanks to a feeling his twin is supposed to have had.

G. A more believable explanation is that, like any pair of people who have grown up together, they are just good at understanding the thought processes behind what their twin does.

    A daily multivitamin may give your well-being an extra benefit, but if you've ever swallowed one and felt sick right after, you know it's hardly a pleasant experience.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    You're taking vitamins on an empty stomach.

    Vitamins that are more acid in nature, like vitamin C, may cause nausea(恶心)if they're consumed on an empty stomach. Vitamins A, D, E and K, unlike some others, may be better absorbed when not taken with food.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Vitamins are like medicines in that they can act on each other and other medicines you're taking.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Some research suggests that multivitamins could cause side effects when taken at the same time with high estrogen(雌激素)levels.

    There's a lot of iron in your pill.

    Multivitamins that contain a lot of iron or iron supplements themselves can cause nausea. This is especially true if you're taking them outside of a meal. Iron is interesting in that it's best absorbed on an empty stomach, but it's hardest to take on an empty stomach because of the nausea. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} It might decrease the absorption a little bit but it's better than nothing.

    Allergic reaction side effects.

    Since multivitamins contain so many vitamins and minerals, allergic reactions are certainly possible .Mild allergic reactions can include itchiness(痒) and a few hives(荨麻疹). {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Should you experience more advanced signs of an allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing, chest pain, widespread hives or a swollen facial region, visit the closest emergency room immediately.

A. You're taking vitamins with other medicines.

B. Below are a few reasons why multivitamins may be making you ill.

C. It's important to discuss with an expert the timing of these vitamins.

D. These stomach issues can be extremely disturbing.

E. It's better to take it with food than trying taking it on an empty stomach.

F. If you experience these side effects, stop use and contact your doctor.

G. Please review the combinations to make sure there are no harmful interactions.

Make a difference

    I love to make a difference to others. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Do you want to contribute to other people's lives, helping them in small and big ways? If the answer is yes, but you are frustrated not being able to follow through, keep reading.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It includes service, time, ideas and methods, leaving your mark on people so that if they were interviewed, they would say, yes, that person made a positive difference in my life.

    Being inspired to make a difference 'really increases your energy. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} But that's not the point! The problem is that we often don't think we have enough time or resources to make a difference—we're too busy living our lives or earning a living. Actually we can afford to spend time on it.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} In fact, other than the challenge of finding the time to do this, I can't think of a single disadvantage to this inspiration.

    This is truly one of my favorite tools to attract more enthusiasm in an easy way into my life. More importantly, I love making a difference in other people's lives. That's why I do it. Attracting enthusiasm is just the "side" benefit.

    We have all learned from Law of Attraction teachers that we will receive more of what we are "broadcasting" to the Universe. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. It is one of my top values.

B. It will help you attract more efforts and enthusiasm into your life.

C. Making a difference will help you attract more attention.

D. So get inspired to make a difference and your life will improve.

E. To make a difference, you can contribute something you have

F. If you want to make a difference, your energy will change when you focus there.

G. There is nothing but positive consequences when you focus on making a difference.

    Near the city of Yogyakarta in Java(爪哇岛)is not only one magnificent(宏伟的)monument, Borobudur(婆罗浮屠), but a second equally impressive one. Prambanan, the second monument, shares a remarkable number of things in common with Borobudur.

    First, both huge temple complexes (建筑群) are thought to have been built at about the same time, around 850 AD. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Some historians think that both temples were created during the era of the Sailendra Dynasty

    Second, in both cases, the temples appear to have been abandoned just after they were completed. Why were they left alone, isolated (被孤立) in the mountains of Java? {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It certainly took a great deal of effort to build the monument, so why would their use come to a standstill(停止)without a very good reason?

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Prior to efforts to restore and preserve them in the 1800s, they lay in ruins, covered with plants. Today, both Borobudur and Prambanan are UNESCO World Heritage sites, famous for their religious art.

    Although there are so many similarities, there are important differences. For example, Prambanan, east of Yogyakarta, is a Hindu temple, while Borobudur, northwest of the city, is a Buddhist temple. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Overall, its individual (个别的) buildings are smaller than those of Borobudur. Borobudur sits on a hill and you can make it out from some distance. On the other hand, Prambanan is spread out over a flatter area. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. Perhaps it is due to the eruption of the volcano, Mount Merapi.

B. Borobudur and Prambanan each tell their sacred stories in vivid detail.

C. Borobudur temple is one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Indonesia.

D. However, scholars are not completely sure about the exact dates of construction of either place.

E. Finally, you can go inside the Hindu temple, but you must admire the Buddhist one from the outside.

F. Borobudur is one huge structure with ten levels, but Prambanan is a group of eighteen temple buildings.

G. The third common factor is that both priceless monuments suffered a great deal of damage during the centuries when they were left alone.
