Ronny looked like every other kid in the classroom where I volunteered as the Reading Mom. However, he had a speech problem so he couldn't 1 like other kids in his grade.

I worked with all the students in Ronny's class one by one to improve their reading skills. On the days when it was Ronny's 2 , I'd give him a silent smile. That's why he sat very close to me and opened the book as if he was opening a treasure that 3 had ever seen.

We have learned English for several years, so we can read English books and magazines without the teachers' help. We feel good when we finish 1 an English story or a whole book 2 ourselves. But3 can we be a better reader?

The length of summer vacation may vary based on where ycu live. At most schools in southern China, the vacation lasts for two months— from the beginning of July to the end of August. But how about kids in other countries or regions? Do they all get out of school at the same time or for as long? Let's find out.

England

 In England, summer vacation starts in mid-July and ends in early September. That means most kids only get six weeks off.

 During their summer vacation, kids often leave the city and go into the country. Towns and villages hosting festivals that celebrate music or theater are some of the most popular destinations.

Japan

 Unlike here in China, the school year in Japan doesn't start in September, but in April. So when Japanese kids go on their summer vacation from mid-July to the end of August, it doesn't mark the end of the school year. Instead, it's just a nice long break during the summer heat.

 Because summer vacation takes place between terms, kids are often given lots of homework during their time off.

Argentina(阿根廷)

 In Argentina, summer vacation starts in mid-December and lasts till the end of February.

 Wait a minute! Wouldn't that make it a winter vacation?

 Well, Argentina lies in the Southern Hemisphere(南半球). When it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere, it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

 Adults also usually get a long break in January or February. So the entire family may pack up and head to one of the country's many beautiful beaches. During summer vacation, the beaches are very crowded!

①How do you feel when you make a mistake? No one likes making mistakes. It often makes you feel unhappy. However, the feeling you get after making a mistake helps your brain adjust (调整) itself and learn. For example, you can't learn how to ride a bike without falling off it, or make friends without sometimes saying things you regret. Getting things wrong helps us adjust ourselves, so we can do things differently.

③Alexandra Eidens from a magazine for kids said we should be open to mistakes because learning from them can help us believe in ourselves and face difficulties bravely. Try talking about one of our mistakes with family or friends. Whether the experience is funny or painful, sharing the story with others will help make it clear how the mistake happened. Eidens also suggests writing down our mistakes. She believes it gives us a chance of self-expression, creativity and learning. It's also a good way for us to learn from our mistakes.
