    We think that life in Chinese high school is an adventure in which we have to survive mountains of homework and all kinds of exams. Yet would it be{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(surprise) if I tell you that high school life in the US is almost as stressful and demanding as it is in China?

    In US high school, everything{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(record) into your studying document, including your grades on quizzes, tests and final examinations. Perhaps contrary to{#blank#}4{#/blank#}we used to think of the US high school students, they pay more attention to their{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(academy) performance to try to get into a distinguished university.{#blank#}6{#/blank#}, they'll be disappointed after graduation from high school.

    Like university students, US high school students have the{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(free) to choose the courses that most interest{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(they). Even a ninth grader can sit{#blank#}9{#/blank#}the same classroom as twelfth graders. But this also means he or she has to work very hard, because the teacher will not treat him or her differently just because he or she is a few years{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(young).

    From The Reader to National Treasure, TV programs seeking to take advantage {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Chinese audience's growing interest in traditional culture had a great year in 2017.

    During a time {#blank#}2{#/blank#} hiring famous pop stars and using silly gimmicks (噱头) have become major trends in drawing younger Chinese viewers, no one ever expected that these slow-paced and serious shows focused on Chinese tradition and culture would {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (accept) so widely. But the fact is that shows like Chinese Poetry Conference and Letters Alive quickly climbed to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} top of the national TV ratings. The popularity of this type of program shows that many Chinese {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (be) eager to learn more about traditional culture.

    While Letters Alive and The Reader invite people from all walks of life {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (read) letters, essays or poems written by respectable writers and other great people, National Treasure focuses on the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (attract) stories and history behind national-level cultural relics (遗物).

    One reason for these shows' being {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (huge) successful might be their human focus. Literary works {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (share) in these shows talk about real life and they also appeal to regular viewers rather than just literature lovers. Though National Treasure focuses on introducing ancient {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (treasure), it focuses more on the human stories behind them.

Cathy: Stan, do you have a minute?

Stan: Oh, hi, Cathy. What's up?

Cathy: Well, I am really {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (disappoint) with the situation in the office.

Stan: I am not in that very often. It is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} noisy that I can't work.

Stan:  Has anybody spoken to him about it?

Stan: You mean that little storage room? Oh, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} would be too small.

Cathy: Are you sure? With those things taken out, it might be {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (big) than it looks.

Stan: Good idea.
