Chuck Wall teaches management and human relations at Bakersfield College. He walked into class one day and told his students that their homework was to perform a simple and random act of kindness. Not {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (understand) the homework, the students didn't know what to do. Chuck didn't answer their questions{#blank#}2{#/blank#} he encouraged his students to work it out by themselves.

    One week later, the students entered the classroom and began sharing their stories{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (excited). One reported on helping a poor dog {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(abandon) by its owner. Another student told others about giving blankets away to the homeless. Gradually, more and more students developed the habit of doing such kind acts, from{#blank#}5{#/blank#} they benefited a lot.

    Since then, similar kind acts{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(perform) in schools around the world. Many schools organize a. Random Acts of Kindness Week, around November 13^th{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(celebrate) World Kindness Day. Some schools use each day of Random Acts of Kindness Week to perform a {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(differ) kind act, such {#blank#}9{#/blank#}making a new friend, helping someone, doing community service or raising money for a charity. In this way, students learn to consider other people and think about how small actions can make the world a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (good) place.

    BEIJING·China will establish a new special economic zone in the{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(heavy) polluted province of Hebei to promote integration（一体化）with {#blank#}2{#/blank#}neighboring cities of Beijing and Tianjin, the government has announced.

    The Xiongan New Area will be {#blank#}3{#/blank#}the same national importance as the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}helped kick-start China's economic reforms in 1980, the official Xinhua news agency said, citing a circular released by the Chinese Cabinet.

    The new special economic zone{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(locate) around 100km south-west of Beijing, close to the Hebei provincial capital of Shijiazhuang and will house some of Beijing's relocated "non-capital functions". It is currently only 100 square kilometers in area {#blank#}6{#/blank#}will eventually be expanded to 2,000 square kilometers.

    Beijing, home to 22 million people,{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(try)to control population growth and relocate industries and other non-capital functions to Hebei in the{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(come) years as part of its efforts to prevent pollution and crowdedness.

    The removal of non-capital functions from Beijing is part of a greater strategy to integrate the development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei for a better economic structure, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(clean) environment and improved public{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (serve).

    Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at Stanford Hospital, I got to know a little girl {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(name) Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion（输血）{#blank#}2{#/blank#}her 5-year-old brother,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to fight the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(ill).

    The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for a moment {#blank#}5{#/blank#}taking a deep breath and saying, “Yes, I'll do it {#blank#}6{#/blank#}it can save Liz.”

    {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(see) the color returning to her cheeks. Then {#blank#}9{#/blank#}face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away?”

Being young, the boy had{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(understand) the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood.

    Choice of seating in the lecture hall can affect a college student's performance, a study suggests.

    Lectures are a main part of higher education, and {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(understand) how students interact and learn within the lecture theatre environment is central to successful learning. Researchers from Sheffield Hallam University in the UK examined {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (student) reasons for choosing particular seats in a lecture hall, and investigated how seating positions are related {#blank#}3{#/blank#} students' performance.

    "Interaction is a key part of learning and knowing who the students are interacting with can be {#blank#}4{#/blank#} great benefit when designing activities," said David P Smith of Sheffield Hallam University.

    Many students {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (prefer) being able to sit with their friends, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} others were more concerned with either attracting or avoiding the lecturer's attention. Some students chose seats {#blank#}7{#/blank#} allowed them to see and hear clearly. But others {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (easy) picked seats that made them feel less depressed, they said.

    Friendship groups who sat together tended {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (achieve) similar grades, and students who sat alone at the edges were likely to do worse than average.

    Lecturers may be able to use these findings to offer assistance to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (anxiety) students，and to support the learning of all students by encouraging interactions between the different groups.
