When learning to drive, we're told to obey the traffic rules and not to drive our vehicles too fast. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} surprises us is that some young people just enjoy the feeling of driving cars or motorcycles at a very high speed. Jack, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} 18-year-old boy, is no exception.

    Recently, Jack's father has bought {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a car, which is quite admired by his friends. When he is out in the country, where there are a few people {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (drive) and the traffic rules are not strict, this {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (adventure) boy will drive at a top speed. In towns, however, there is a speed limit, that is, fifty kilometers an hour, but Jack often drives much {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (fast).

    One day Jack was driving through towns {#blank#}7{#/blank#} a young policeman, who was new to his work, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (stop) him and said, “I'm afraid you were driving at a more than fifty kilometers an hour, Sir. Please give me your name and address. ” {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (look) at the policeman carefully, Jack said to him, “Well, Sir, I started my journey less than an hour ago.” On hearing this, he didn't know the answer{#blank#}10{#/blank#} Jack's excuse. He thought for a few seconds and then let Jack go.

    Did you know that what you think you like and don't like is often the result of false beliefs? As humans, we tend to be {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (easy) influenced when it comes to liking or disliking something, and we're happy to have our existing beliefs confirmed. But once these beliefs became fixed, we often lose our ability to be {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (object) and we don't like to have our ideas challenged.  Generally speaking, human beings are not good at taking a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (balance) view of things. For instance, we unconsciously start to listen for and select information that {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (match) our beliefs and turn a blind eye to information that doesn't, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (reject) it out of hand. We don't always like to accept new information that doesn't match up with what we already believe.

    As a result, we often don't even consider the reasons behind {#blank#}6{#/blank#} opposing point of view. Instead, we look for evidence that confirms {#blank#}7{#/blank#} we had already thought, and which conforms to our own point of view. We're more likely {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (give) meaning to information that matches the beliefs we already have. In other words, we are biased (偏见) towards certain information. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} can come as a shock when information we {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (trust) is actually exposed to be untrue.

    Each year{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(thousand) of tourists visit the polar regions of the Arctic and Antarctica. But the increasing number of people traveling to the ends of the Earth can have{#blank#}2{#/blank#}negative effect on fragile ecosystems. Should tourists{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(allow) to visit polar regions?

    About 40,000 tourists visit Antarctica each year. More than five million travel to the Arctic and sub-Arctic. Transporting tourists to the regions{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(increase) ship and airplane traffic, adding to the risk of pollution, oil spills, and other {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(environment) damage. Because the places where wildlife is accessible{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(be) few in number, tourist traffic can become concentrated in specific areas,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (put)Arctic vegetation(植被) at risk.

    Others say that access{#blank#}8{#/blank#}these very special parts of the world should not be restricted to only researchers and scientists. Polar tourism allows people to develop deep {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(person) connections with polar regions. "Those{#blank#}10{#/blank#}travel to the Arctic or Antarctica often become cheerleaders for supporting those places." Jim Sano, vice president for travel and conservation at World Wildlife Fund, told TFK.

    It was getting dark when I got home. It was cold and I {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(wear) a coat. I walked up to the door and put my hand into my pocket {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(take) out my key {#blank#}3{#/blank#} I couldn't find it. I suddenly remembered that I {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(leave) it on my desk in the office. It really didn't make any difference. I knew my wife {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(be) at home and the children must have come back from school by now, so I {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(knock) at the door.

    There was no answer, so I knocked again. I continued knocking at the door for some time. I {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(get) angry. Then I remembered something the office boy had told me at noon. He said that my wife {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(phone) saying that she {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(go) shopping in the afternoon with the children.

    There was only one thing for me to do: I had to climb in {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a window.

    A Florida boy who called 911 because he was lonely has now made friends with a kind-hearted police officer.

    Tallahassee police officer Joe White responded {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a call made by a six-year-old boy. While there {#blank#}2{#/blank#} no emergency at the house, White said the child was upset and told him he was lonely.

    "It took Officer White some time {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(explain) how 911 is used and how it's for emergencies," read a post on the Tallahassee Police Department's Facebook page. "Then Officer White said he'd always to be a friend!"

    In addition to {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(give) the child a lesson on the proper use of 911, White gave the child a stuffed animal and let him sit in his car.

    Since the heart-warming story was shared on Facebook, it {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(attract) hundreds of comments from people {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(touch) by the tale.

    "It's such {#blank#}7{#/blank#} extraordinary story! I really admire Officer White for being just what this young man needed—a friend. And it's also a great opportunity for a learning experience—the {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(important) of using 911 properly. What White has done {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(positive) influences those {#blank#}10{#/blank#} have been inspired by this story. I hope they will keep up the friendship," wrote Jean Smith
