A Bite of China

    No trip would be complete without experiencing the local food culture. Actually, China has various kinds of delicious food,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (include) a wide variety of local snacks (小吃).

    Without a doubt, for the majority of the foreigners I contacted, and myself included, Peking Duck, Dim Sum, Mongolian Hot Pot were the favorite Chinese {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (dish). China is a place{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the food is not only delicious, but the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (cheap) I've ever found.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}my last night in Beijing before returning to the States, I went to a Peking Duck restaurant that had been suggested for me to try. What a beautiful place! Splendid woodblock prints on the walls, fresh flowers in the vases on the table,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (attract) silverware (镀银餐具) and beautiful chopsticks. I was handed {#blank#}7{#/blank#} menu and found most of the prices{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(be) especially low for the high quality of the food. The duck came in whole or half, along with all the little decorations that you know if you've ever eaten Peking duck—a little tortilla (玉米饼) to put the sliced duck and vegetables in chopped onion, sauce.

    Anyway, I ended up ordering a whole duck and thought I'd just take the rest back to my hotel{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(eat) later if I couldn't finish it. Unbelievably, in the end there was none of the whole duck{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(leave) on the plate. Umm, yummy!

    I enjoy{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (climb) mountains whenever I can find the time to do so. Tom and Mike are my best friends. Both of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} also like sports. Two years ago, the three of us {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (go) up to Mt. Lushan. Instead of taking a bus, which would be {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (comfortable), we preferred to climb. We started {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the foot of the mountain early in the morning, chatting all the way. After about one and a half hours' climbing, we saw two mountain {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (path) before us. We could not decide {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to choose. In the end, we took the path on the right, thinking that might be a short cut. But we were wrong. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (lose) in the mountain, we could not find our way out. We had to use our hands and feet to make a way. We began to cry for help {#blank#}9{#/blank#} nobody answered. It was not until darkness {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (fall) that we found a right path leading up to a paved road.

    Which would you rather be, a mathematician or {#blank#}1{#/blank#}author? Perhaps you will never be {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(face)with this kind of choice. Lewis Carroll was a mathematician and author. He was a lecturer in mathematics at Oxford University. But he is{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(good)known as the writer of two of the most famous children's books {#blank#}4{#/blank#}have ever been written(Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass). The author's real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, but he {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (prefer)to use the pen name "Lewis Carroll" when he wrote, and this is the name we remember him by. Alice in Wonderland, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (publish)in 1865 when the author was 33 years old, was followed by Through the Looking Glass in in 1871. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} books were written for a real girl called Alice and they {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (read)by millions of children since they were first published. These stories are about a dream world in which Alice meets strange creatures and has {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (interest) adventures. I'm sure you know this already, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} if you don't, you'd better read the stories yourselves.
