Spiderman is one of the most famous comic book heroes of all time. He was created by Stan Lee in 1963 and was first introduced to the world in the pages of Marvel comic books.
     Spiderman's story is the story of Peter Parker, a child who lost his parents and lives with his aunt and uncle. Peter is a shy, quiet boy wearing glasses and has few friends. One day, on a high school class trip to a science lab, he gets bitten by a special spider. Soon Peter realizes he has amazing powers: he is as strong and quick as a spider and also has a type of sixth sense. He no longer needs his glasses and he can use his super power to fly through the city streets! Remembering something his Uncle Ben has told him, that "with great power, there must also come great responsibility（责任）," Peter decides to use his powers to fight enemies who do cruel things to people. And so, Spiderman is born.
     Life is not easy for Peter even though he is a superhero. He is in love with Mary Jane but cannot tell her about his amazing powers. Besides, his best friend Harry hates Spiderman! Peter is also short of money and time. He has to sell photos of Spiderman (himself!) to a newspaper and he keeps losing his other jobs because he's so busy saving people! Yet he has to fight different kinds of cruel enemies.

   Stuffy Pete sat down on a bench in the New York City Park. It was the third bench to the left as you enter the park from the east.

    Every Thanksgiving Day for nine years, an Old Gentleman had come to find Stuffy there at one in the afternoon. He led Stuffy to a restaurant and watched him eat a big dinner. He was trying to make it a tradition.  

    Stuffy had just come from a dinner so big that he had almost no power to move. How he expected that gentleman would not come this year! Then his eyes grew wider and his breath stopped.

    The Old Gendeman was thin and tall, dressed all in black. He wore eye-glasses. His hair was whiter and thinner than it was last year. His legs did not seem as strong as they had seemed the year before, but he moved, straight and proud, to Stuffy and toward the tradition that he was building.

    "I am glad to see everything's fine with you. For that blessing you and I can give thanks on this day of thanksgiving. If you will come with me, my man, I will give you a dinner that will surely make your body feel as thankful as your mind," said the gentleman. The words themselves were almost a tradition

    Stuffy was very full, but he understood that his desire for food on Thanksgiving Day was not his own. It belonged to this kind gentlemam.

    The gentleman led Stuffy to the restaurant and to the same table where they had always gone. He sat at the table, watching.

    The turkey and all the other food were gone almost as quickly as they appeared Stuffy saw the look of happiness on the gentleman's face. He continued to eat to keepit there.

    In an hour the battle was finished.  

    "Thank you for my Thanksgiving dinner," Stuffy stood up heavily.

    They said goodbye, as they did each year, at the door.

    Stuffy went around the first corner, stood for one minute, and fell. He was picked up and taken to a hospital.

    An hour later , the Old Gentleman was brought to the same hospital.

    "That nice old gentleman over there," a doctor was talking to another. "Do you know what's wrong with him? He's almost dead for the need of food. A very proud old man, I think, He told me he hadn't eaten anything for three days."

    Tom lives in a town near New York. His father has a factory there and his mother is a doctor. He is seven and begins to go to school this September. The school is a little far from home and his father drives a car to take him to school five days a week. So he is never late for class and his teachers like him very much.

    It is Monday today. Miss Green is teaching them to count from one to ten in the morning. Tom is studying hard. Soon he can count them. Miss Green is happy and asks," How many people are there in your family, Tom?"

    Tom stands up and says, "Two, Miss Green."

    "Who are they?"

    "My father and my mother."

    "Oh," Miss Green is surprised. Then she says, "There are three people in your family."

    "But now I'm not at home. I'm at school, you know!"

    Lots of students know what a marathon (马拉松赛跑) is, but perhaps they don't know what a triathlon is. The triathlon is a sport that has three parts - swimming, bicycling and running. It is not an easy sport, but a man named Joe Salter is very good at it. A few months ago, he finished a special triathlon — he juggled (抛起接住) three balls all the time during the triathlon. That is to say, he kept on throwing and catching three balls while he was swimming, riding a bicycle and running.

    31-year-old Joe is from Florida, the USA. He loves juggling and he started at the age of 8. Joe did well in juggling. Later, he got the idea to do a triathlon and juggle at the same time to make it more fun. Many juggling fans laughed at his idea and thought it was just a joke. But Joe didn't give up and he kept practicing it. Because of his hard work, he made it at last.

    Talking about his triathlon, Joe said swimming was the hardest part. “It was difficult and complex(复杂的)," he said. “I basically only used my legs, so it took quite a lot of work. Also, swimming in open water made it a little harder. It was not like in a pool.”

    I am Li Ping. I am a girl of ten. My favorite subject is English, because it is very interesting. And I like speaking English.

    I have a good English teacher. Her name is Wang Hong. She loves us very much. She likes playing basketball after class. She likes reading books very much. And she often tells us some funny stories.

    My favorite sports are swimming and dancing. I cannot play basketball, but I want to join the basketball club. My favorite animal is a cat. Its name is Mimi. It is  white and black. It often stays under the chair, but now it is on the chair.

    I volunteered at the vet's (兽医诊所) last summer vacation. Minnie was the most interesting dog that I saw there. Long hair covered her body. And her tail looked like a mouse's tail.

    She was brought to the vet's because her owner didn't want her any more. Minnie was well-behaved(行为端正). "No one should judge(评判) her by her appearance," I thought. So the people of the vet's looked after her. Finally, I advertised Minnie in the local newspaper. "Funny-looking dog, well-behaved, needs a loving family." When a young man called, I told him that Minnie looked a little strange. The boy on the phone told me that his grandfather's old dog had just died. They wanted to bring Minnie to him. I gave Minnie a good bath. At last, an old car drove up in front of the vet's. Two kids brought Minnie to their grandfather who was waiting in the car. Then the grandfather held Minnie in his arms and touched her soft hair. Minnie kissed his face. She waved her tail so quickly. "She's great!" the old man said.

    I was glad that Minnie found a good family. That's when I saw that the grandfather was blind.
