Once a man and his wife worked for an old man.  There was a big box in the man's living room. The old man pointed to the box and said, "There's only one thing you 1 do. Don't open the box. " 2 saying this, he left his home.

    The woman said to her husband, "There must be 3 expensive in the box.  Let's open it, shall we?"     "Some cabbage would be a proper choice for a good stone soup! "said the third soldier. Another woman said, "I think I can probably find some cabbage," and she ran 6.

    "If only we had a bit of beef and some potatoes, this soup would be fit for a rich man's 7." The villagers thought it over, then ran to fetch what they had in their homes. A rich man's soup, and all from a few stones! It seemed like 8!

    The soldiers said, "If only we had a little milk, this soup would be fit for a king!" And so other villagers 9 to get some milk.

    "The soup is ready," said the cooks, "and all will 10 it, but first we need to set the tables."    "Jane, please let me borrow a dollar," Jenny asked as they stood in the school lunch line." I have one in my jacket, but I don't want to1and lose my place."

    Weeks went by. At last Jane got enough courage to ask her about the money.

   "Oh Jane, I6!" Jenny said." I'll bring the dollar tomorrow." The next day Jenny seemed to have forgotten again. During the noon hour, Jane saw her buying sweets for Mary and Ann. Jenny saw Jane looking at her.7she said something in a low voice to the other two girls. Jane felt8and asked her teacher if she could go back to the classroom.

I think I should put a bag of rice in his barn(谷仓)." "Oh, that's a good idea!" said his wife." But please don't tell him, "said Simon." If he knows I put the rice there, he will2take it."
