Chinese believe nine represents sun, the{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (bright) thing. September 9th has two nine, and the sun is doubled, so it {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (call) Double Ninth Festival.  "Nine" is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} positive number. September 9th comprises double "Nine", so it gets the name. In {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(real), it has been formed as early as the Warring States period. To the Tang Dynasty , it was{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (official) appointed{#blank#}6{#/blank#}the folk festival , and then it's followed so far. Nine also means Long in Chinese words. It's the Chinese Festival for the Elderly, {#blank#}7{#/blank#}reflects（反应）our behavior of respecting, caring , loving and helping the old. It's also a method to promote communication with the elderly well. It is in1989 {#blank#}8{#/blank#}Chinese put annual Sept.9 as the Festival for the Elderly, cleverly {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (combine) tradition and modernity. It's good for keeping our nice traditional civilization through it, and a good way to help us communicate with the elder better, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (make) our society more harmonious.

    My interest in Chinese food started years ago, when I was a young reporter for the Washington Post. Our office wasn't far from Chinatown,{#blank#}1{#/blank#}I found some very good Chinese restaurants.

    That was the first time that I{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(notice) the fresh taste of the meat and vegetables of Chinese food.

    When I learned more about the food, I began to understand why{#blank#}3{#/blank#}has this special feature.

    Many years ago, china had{#blank#}4{#/blank#}energy crisis because it lost much of its wood due to over population and poor management of its forests. This{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(lose) was very bad for the country, of course, but it turned out to be very good for the food. Wood became very expensive and hard to get, so the Chinese had to either find a substitute for their{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(value) wood, or learn how to use it better. There weren't any substitutes so people found ways to economize.

    In order to economize in cooking, they had to use very little wood. So they started cutting their meat and vegetables{#blank#}7{#/blank#}small pieces before they put them in the hot oil. That way, the food cooked{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(fast) and they saved more fuel. The food{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(prepare) in this way kept its fresh flavor and it's this flavor{#blank#}10{#/blank#}attracts people from other countries to the art of Chinese cooking.

    Cell phones can be life-saving communication tools to have on hand in a vehicle in case of emergency. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, actually using a cell phone while driving may be life threatening. Many different studies have shown that when drivers use a phone while driving, it can be very {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (danger). At some point during the use of a cell phone, a driver's eyes are sure to be distracted from the road.

    Studies have shown that new drivers are especially likely {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (have) an accident when they use a cell phone while driving. The reason for this is {#blank#}4{#/blank#}new drivers have less experience in focusing {#blank#}5{#/blank#}driving during distractions. Also, several studies {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (do) on teen drivers found that many teens send text {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (message) while driving, which is thought to be more distracting and at risk.

    All drivers, not just teens or other new drivers, who use a cell phone while driving {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (say) by studies to be at least four times {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (much) likely to be at risk than drivers who don't use a phone behind the wheel. Such studies have inspired many countries, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (include) the United States, to have at least some bans on hand-held cell phone use while driving. However, many people feel that these restrictions are not enough because studies have also shown that hand-held cell phones are just a part of the problem.

    If you have ever taken a handwritten prescription from a doctor or looked at the notes from your visit, it seems like no amount of squinting(眯眼) could help the letters get clearer. Bad handwriting almost seems like a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(require) for graduating from medical school. But it's not the fact{#blank#}2{#/blank#}only people with bad handwriting{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(attract) to the medical field. If so, why does it happen to doctors?

“In the medical field, if it's not documented, it{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(actual) didn't happen," says Celine Thum, MD, medical director at ParaDoes Worldwide. Anything you talk about behind closed doors needs written evidence for your medical history. But the truth is that most physicians are rushing around to the next patient.
