She looks like any other schoolgirl, fresh-faced and full of life. Sarah Thomas is looking forward to the challenge of her new A-level course . But unlike school friends ,16-year-old Sarah is not spending half-term  {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (rest). Instead, she is earning $6500 a day as {#blank#}2{#/blank#} model in New York.

    Sarah  {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (tell) that she could be Britain's new supermodel， earning a million dollars in the new year. Her father Peter44,want her to give up school to model fulltime. But Sarah, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}has taken part in shows along with top models， wants  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (prove) that she has brains as well as beauty. She is determined to carry on with her{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(educate).

    She has turned down several {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(invitation) to star at shows in order to concentrate on her studies. After school she plans to take a year off to model full time before going to university to get a degree {#blank#}8{#/blank#} engineering or architecture.

    Sarah says, "My dad thinks I should take the offer now. But at the moment, school {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(come) first. I don't want to get too absorbed in modeling. It is{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(certain) fun but the lifestyle is a little unreal. I don't want to have nothing else to fall back on when I can't model my more."

    In 1940, four teenage boys and their dog were walking through woodland close to Lascaux, when their dog suddenly disappeared. The boys searched all around. They came to a cave and looked into the cave{#blank#}1{#/blank#} could see nothing.

    A few days later, the boys returned to the cave. They could hardly believe {#blank#}2{#/blank#}eyes. In the weak lamplight, the boys saw red horses and cows, and black bulls and deer charging across the walls of the cave, which looked so {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(frighten) that the boys jumped back in fear. Little did the boys know that they had made one of the most important{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(discover) of that century.

    The Famous Lascaux Caves consist of a large hole and{#blank#}5{#/blank#} series of connecting caves, with a natural water system. The paintings there were an especially important find because they are so numerous and so well preserved. After a few years, the caves were opened{#blank#}6{#/blank#} a tourist attraction, and 1,200 people per day came to the site{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(admire) the paintings{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (fortunate), many visitors resulted in changes in the cave's atmosphere, and green algae (水藻) began to grow around the walls. Since then, the caves {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(close) to the public in an effort to conserve the fragile paintings in this precious underground site.

    Today, the caves have computer-controlled air-conditioning and are inspected daily. Scientists hope that these precautions will prevent any{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(far) damage to the paintings.

    As a kid I disliked most vegetables. My daily meal consisted {#blank#}1{#/blank#} sugary cereal (谷类食物)in the mornings with whole milk, bread with butter for lunch along with chips, and a plate of white rice with chicken for dinner with either soda {#blank#}2{#/blank#} juice to drink. Whenever {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (go) out on weekends. I always chose fast food. An order of chicken nuggets with a side of fries was what I always wanted.

    Then the food that I loved {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (begin) to give me chest pains, heart burns, and stomachaches. I quickly realized that this couldn't end in anything good. So I decided {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (put) a stop to my unhealthy diet. I cut out fast food from my diet and instead searched for places {#blank#}6{#/blank#} offered me steamed vegetables, fruits, and foods higher in protein like beans which were things that I had been previously lacking in my diet.

    Making a change will never be {#blank#}7{#/blank#}easy task but sometimes it takes a hit of tugging to push us towards {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(we) goal. In my case it took an upset stomach and chest pains to learn that fast food wasn't the best choice for my health, but thanks to this now I feel {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(well) than ever. I am {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (constant) going to the gym, and I'm still eating what I love while supporting ray own body.

    Last Friday a storm swept through two villages in the New Territories,{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(destroy) fourteen homes. Seven others were so badly damaged{#blank#}2{#/blank#}their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows or roofs. One person was killed, several were{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(serious) hurt and taken to hospital, and a number of other people received smaller hurt. Altogether over two hundred people were homeless after the storm.

    A farmer, Mr. Tan, said that the storm began early{#blank#}4{#/blank#}the morning and lasted for over an hour.

    "I{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(eat) with my wife and children," he said," when we heard a loud noise. A few minutes later our house fell down on top of us. We tried our best{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(climb) out but then I saw that one of my children was{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(miss).I went back inside and found him, safe{#blank#}8{#/blank#}very frightened."

Mrs. Woo Mei Fong said that her husband had just left for work when she{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(feel) that her house was moving. She ran outside at once with her children.

    Soldiers helped to take people out of the flooded area and the welfare department brought{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(they) food, clothes and shelter.

    It's so close, and yet it always seemed so far away. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(get) to the rural district just a few hundred {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(meter) away on the other side of the bay, native people used to have to jump on a boat or drive about 160 kilometers－part of that journey on {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(dust) road.

    Now anyone wanting to get from downtown Maputo, capital of Mozambique, to Katembe, or vice versa, can do so easily, and in a matter of minutes, thanks to the longest twin­tower suspension bridge in Africa, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} hangs over Maputo Bay.

    "Mozambique had long planned to build a bridge linking the north and south of the bay, but nothing came of them because {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a lack of money and technology,"  said Wang Lijun, vice­president of China Road and Bridge Corporation (公司), which built {#blank#}6{#/blank#} bridge.

    The Maputo­Katembe Bridge, {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(open) in November after four years of construction, is part of the Maputo Bridge and Link Roads project which {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(build) by CRBC. It {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(be) 187 kilometers long and serves as an important highway that directly links Maputo to the border with South Africa, to the south.

    "By night, when the lights are on, it's {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(especial) impressive," Wang said, and as a landmark it could help develop tourism and attract overseas investment for Mozambique.
