    Scientists found that air pollution may be responsible {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a significant reduction in intelligence. The research conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in China {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (show) that air pollution led to big falls in test {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (score) for languages and arithmetic. The study is called "The impact of exposure to air pollution on cognitive (认知的)performance ". It was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal. The study took place over four years. Researchers analyzed speaking and arithmetic tests taken by 20 000 people of all ages. They said, "Polluted air may prevent cognitive ability {#blank#}4{#/blank#} people become older.”

    The study is a warning to the rest of the world, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (especial) to those in cities. Researchers discovered that {#blank#}8{#/blank#} longer people were exposed to polluted air, the greater their intelligence went down. They said air pollution caused a year's worth of lost education. Governments really need to take effective measures to reduce air pollution."

    "Failing to open curtains fully makes people more likely to get sick", {#blank#}1{#/blank#} new study suggests. It found sunlight kills disease-causing bacteria {#blank#}2{#/blank#} live in dust, while darker conditions let them thrive (繁殖). The findings {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (publish) in the journal Microbiome.

    Researchers {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (warn) the problem also affects windowless offices. Study leader Dr. Ashkaan Fahimipour said: "Humans spend most of their time indoors, where dust carries bacteria {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (make) us sick.

After 90 days, dark rooms had double the number of bacteria able to reproduce. Fahimipour added: "We hope that with {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (far) understanding we can design access to daylight in {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (build) schools, offices, hospitals and homes in ways that reduce the risk of dust-borne infections."
