Once there lived a rich man {#blank#}1{#/blank#} wanted to do something for the people of his town. But first he wanted to find out whether they {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (actual) deserved his help.

    In the centre of the main road into the town , he placed{#blank#}3{#/blank#} very large stone. Then he {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (hide) behind a tree and waited. Soon an old man came along with his cow.

    “Who put this stone in the centre of the road?” said the old man, but he did not attempt {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (remove) the stone. {#blank#}6{#/blank#},with some difficulty he passed around the stone and continued on his way. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} man came along and did the same thing; then another came, and another. All of them complained about the stone but nobody tried to remove it. Late in the afternoon a young man came along. He saw the stone, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (say) to himself; “The night {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (be)very dark. Some neighbors will come along later in the dark and will fall against the stone.”

    The he began to move the stone. He pushed and pulled with all his {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (strong)to move it. To his amazement, he found a bag of money under the stone.

    The giant vending machine (自动售货机) is a new village shop

Villagers have long been used to facing a drive when they run out of basic supplies. However, help is now nearer at hand in form of the country's first automatic push-button shop. Now residents in the Derbyshire Village of Clifton can buy groceries around the clock after the huge vending was installed outside a pub in the village this week.

    Peter Fox, who is{#blank#}1{#/blank#}electrical engineer, spent two and a half years working on the project. The machine {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (equip) with securing cameras and alarms and looks like a mini shop with a brick front, a grey roof and a display window.

    Mr. Fox said he hoped his invention,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} is set to be installed in other villages in the area over the coming months, will mark a return to convenience shopping for rural communities.

He said:“ I had this idea a few years ago but I couldn't find a manufacture who could deliver what I wanted, so I did it by{#blank#}4{#/blank#} The result is what amounts to huge outdoor vending machine. Yet I think the term “automatic shop” is far {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (appropriate)

    In recent years, the commercial pressure from supermarket chains{#blank#}6{#/blank#} force village shops across the country to close. In 2010, it was estimated that about 400 village shops closed,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (urge) the local government to give financial support to struggling shops or set-up new communities stores.

    Hundreds of communities have since stepped in and opened up their won volunteer-run shops, but Mr. Fox hopes his new invention will offer a solution{#blank#}8{#/blank#}these villages without a local shop.

    More and more foreigners like to come to China. Last Friday our school was invited a foreign teacher in our city give a class to the students of Senior Grade Two. We found his class interested. I learned a lot from him. The teacher had a free talk to us with easy English . He spoke slow so that we could understand him well. Sometimes he repeated what we don't understand. My classmates were all active in the class. To his joy, I understood everything the teacher said. And I was able to ask question in English. This class encouraged me very much. I'm sure that until we keep on practising, it will be easy for us to learn speaking English well.

And I buy packs of Post­ its to write notes on whenever I see {#blank#}8{#/blank#} opportunity to make a stranger smile. I only leave the notes when I am feeling in a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (happily) mood, as I don't want to pass any negative energy on to someone else.

    I sign them all{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (say) that this note is left for you by a stranger to make you smile. Then, I add a heart.

    Joe's plane landed on time at Heathrow Airport. He had {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (exact) one hour to get out of the airport and go across the centre of the airport and the centre of London to catch his train to Manchester.
