Cool inventions

    Hello! My name is Jack. I'm thirteen years old. I like riding very much. I go to school by bike every day. Look! This is my school. There is a new gym in my school. There are many students playing in it. There is a new garden, too. There are many flowers and trees in it. It's very beautiful. The food is delicious in the dining hall.

    Five years ago, I came to this school. At that time, I was short, so I couldn't ride my bike well. Our school was old and small. There was no dining hall. I ate lunch at home. There was no gym, either. We played basketball on the small playground after lunch. And sometimes we played ping-pong, too.

    Now everything is different. The school is big and nice. How time flies.

    Today is fine, and the sky is blue. Now it's nine o'clock in the morning. There's a sports meeting in the forest on the mountain.

    Look! A horse, a panda and a cat are running. Over there a dog and two tigers are jumping. Two monkeys are climbing the trees. Four birds are flying around and singing.

    There are some other animals there, too. The elephants are standing. A monkey is sitting on an old elephant. The monkey has a flag in his hand. They are all watching.  

    Last week we talked about growing potatoes. Today we will talk about growing another root vegetable, carrots. Carrots are easy to grow and easy to harvest. They taste good. And they contain a lot of carotene (胡萝卜素). When we eat the carrots, our body makes carotene into vitamin A(维生素A).

    When we think of carrots, we usually say carrots are long, thin and orange. But carrots are in many different sizes and shapes. And not all carrots are orange. Sometimes we have green carrots with yellow inside.

    Carrots should be planted in the sand. The soil also should have no rocks.

    Everyone wants to have good manners, but it is not so easy. We must care about everything in life. There is something we should know.

    First, say "hello" to people you meet, not only to teachers, but also to your friends and your classmates, and even your neighbors. Second, help others as much as you can. Then everybody will like you. Third, don't laugh at others. That will be impolite and hurt them. Fourth, never ask others about their personal information. If others have something that they cannot say, they will be very embarrassed.

    Good manners make things easier. They can help people to get on well with each other. When you are nice to people, they will be nice to you.
