    A musician friend of me once went on an English course during his summer holidays. What he really wants to do was to improve his ability to think and react quick in spoken English.     Jiaozi (Chinese dumplings), mainly with meats and vegetable fillings, is a traditional Chinese food, dated back to about 1,500 years ago. China had been perfecting the art of dumpling making since the Ming Dynasty. The Spring Festival marks the start of a new year, but people choose to eat jiaozi to express theirs wishes for good fortune. By the tradition, family members get together to make dumplings.        
    Approaches of cooking Chinese dumplings varies from place to place. There is no set rule as to which makes dumpling fillings. Whatever the fillings, the wrapping skill is essential to make jiaozi look attractively.

    It was my grandfather's birthday on last Friday. Early in the morning, my parents and I set off for the department store to look at a gift. Eventually a warm sweater is bought. To give my grandpa a surprise, I decided to baking a birthday cake. With mom's help, it still took me a long time when it was my first homemade cake. The moments the cake was out the oven, the celebration began. Watch Grandpa enjoy the cake, I got a greatly sense of achievement.     Spring has come with all its beauty! Trees have turned green or flowers can be seeing everywhere. Last Friday, my friends and me went on a spring outing. It was such a great fun!     To be a volunteer is a great pleasure. Last Sunday, I get up early because I was so excited to sleep any longer. In morning, we arrived at the Happing Nursing Home. How happily the old people were when they saw us! Then we cleaned the windows or swept the floor for them, some of us gave some performances to them, such as sing songs and dancing. When it was time for us volunteers to leave, we were grateful for our kindness. From this meaningful activity, I have realized that we are supposing to care for the old. In our daily life, we should offer our seat to them on buses and treat our own grandparents more kindly. I sincerely hope more people will join in us.

    Last summer, I got a part-time job as a waiter. I worked hard and very helpful. Everyone in a restaurant including some regular customer liked me. One day, a foreign couple in their fifties entered into the restaurant. I was happy to have a chance to practise their spoken English. I went up to greet them warm. After I took their order, I told them their food will be served quickly because we Chinese respected the elderly. Heard my words, a look of displeasure appeared on the wife's face. Seeing my confusing look, her husband explained to me the westerners disliked the description "old". I apologized to them but realized the importance of knowing cultural differences.
