    China to Promote Traditional Opera in Schools

    China´s central government has promised to promote traditional opera in schools.

    Primary schools, secondary schools, colleges {#blank#}1{#/blank#} universities will give students the opportunity {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (watch) traditional opera free of charge, according to a guideline jointly {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (issue) by the publicity department of the Communist Party of China and the ministers of culture, education and finance. By 2018, students in all schools and colleges nationwide can watch {#blank#}4{#/blank#} opera free of charge every year.

    The campaign for traditional opera to reach students {#blank#}5{#/blank#}（be）common in all schools in 2020, according to the guideline. The guideline also urges schools to strengthen the creation of opera interest group. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} calls on the joint effort of the government, education, society and individuals to support the campaign.     Babies are great and lots of fun. We all love babies and we need babies, too. Many countries don't have enough of them. That's a big problem.

    Most babies grow up to become workers. As the number of workers {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (grow), a country can produce more things. That often means people's lives become easier and more {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (comfort). But without enough babies, a country {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (gradual) gets old.     The Silk Road was a route that connected people from the East to West for hundreds of years and allowed {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (they) to trade valuable goods with each other. But there's more to the story. The Silk Road should {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (real) be called the Silk Roads. The Silk Road, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} started in China, went west and branched out into many routes.

    The Silk Road has been around for nearly 3,000 years. Most people know that valuable goods traveled along the route: silk and spices from China; jewels and wood from India; gold and animals from East Africa. These goods {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (trade) in cities along the route or ended up as far west {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Europe.

    But the people {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (travel) along the Silk Road were carrying something far {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (valuable) than their goods. They were carrying ideas and technology. European travelers returned home with stories of huge Chinese ships they had seen. The compass is an example of a(n) {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (invent) that came west from China. Europeans learned from Korean maps, which were advanced for the 1400s.
