Roofs and windows of
buildings aren't the only surfaces that can be used to produce solar power. In
China,{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(construct)has begun of the country's first
solar highway, in which solar panels are placed underneath transparent
concrete.
The solar highway is a 2 km
stretch(一段)of road{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(lie)on the Jinan City
Expressway, and it's divided into three layers. The see-through concrete
protects a set of solar panels of two{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(size). Beneath the solar panels{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(be)a layer that separates them
from the damp ground.
The road{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(it)has already been completed, and now it's only a matter of
connecting the grid(输电网),{#blank#}6{#/blank#}is expected to be finished
by the end of the year alongside the completion of the Jinan Expressway's south
section.
This isn't the first solar
road China has worked on. Earlier this year, the Qilu Transportation
Development Group, also handling the Jinan Expressway solar road,{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(build)a 160-meter- long solar road in{#blank#}8{#/blank#}city of Jinan. It has the
ability of heating up to keep the highway clear{#blank#}9{#/blank#}snow and ice* and is able
to{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(wireless) charge electric vehicles. The new solar highway is expected to
one day be equipped with the same features.
