语法填空

Do your family often take a trip? For most families, a trip in a car to an unfamiliar (不熟悉的) area often goes with the question about which way (take). This is not the case, however, in the Williams family. They never get (lose) when five-year-old Daniel is with them. That's because Daniel has the unbelievable(able) to tell them the best way to get from one place to another anywhere in England and what's more, he doesn't need a map-he can do itthinking.

Daniel(be) interested in place names since he first learned to talk. When he was about three, he started asking his parents questions about how the roads they drove along joined up, andsoon became obvious that he had a super memory for maps. He had no difficulty(remember) the roads he saw from the car window.

Now, after school, Daniel's (favor) game is drawing maps of the road systems in the places he hasn't visited. His parents have no idea where his particular talent comes fromno one else in the family has it. Although he has other(hobby) Daniel's greatest goal in life is to become a mapmaker.

If you read a newspaper or listen to a newscast recently, you may hear or read a strange word, “staycation”. Staycation is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} new word the American press is using {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (describe) vacation very close to your own home, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} simply staying at home during your vacation. It is a combination (合成) of the words “stay” and “vacation”.
According to many news reports, these staycations are very popular among American families this year. Why? The high price of gasoline for cars and airplanes has made it very costly for Americans to travel {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (compare) to past years. When you combine this with the weak American dollar, it all adds up to people deciding to stay close to home {#blank#}5{#/blank#} their traditional summer vacations. Without doubt, some places are more {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (interest) to “stay at home” than others. And if you live in a very small town, well, you may just want to skip your vacation and save your time up to next year.
Everything is increasingly {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (expense) nowadays, and let's face it—a vacation just may not be in your plan this year. You don't have to give up family fun just because you can't get away; instead, follow my tips for an {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (economy) staycation filled with old favorites and new adventures! Staycations have {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(achieve) high popularity in modern society in which {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (employ) levels and gas prices are high.

Last summer holiday, I took part in a teaching project and volunteered{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(teach) in a countryside primary school for two weeks.

When we arrived at the school, though shocked by the poor living conditions, we quickly adapted {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to the life there. My good friend Tom and I were in charge of the third year students, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(consist) of just 18 boys and girls. We not only taught them English and maths, but also organized some after-school {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(activity) for them. Gradually, I found that many of the students were actually quite 6{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(talent). But some had to leave school early, which is{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(large) because their families were under heavy financial pressure, and they had to find a job to support the family.

As well as giving lessons, we also helped set up a reading room in the school {#blank#}7{#/blank#} students hardly had any access{#blank#}8{#/blank#} good reading materials except textbooks. With the help of school staff and students, we cleaned out an abandoned classroom. When we placed the books students and teachers in my high school {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(donate) onto the shelves, I found the students were more than excited and {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(dive) into reading there.

Two weeks quickly passed and we had to leave. I did not know how much we had actually taught them, but for me I learned a great deal—cherish what I possess and study harder.
