Zhu De was born {#blank#}1{#/blank#} December 1, 1886 to a poor farmer's family in a town in Yilong County, a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (hill) and separate part of northern Sichuan Province. Of the fifteen {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (child) born to the family, only eight survived. His Hakka(客家) family migrated from Hunan Province and Guangdong Province {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Sichuan. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} his family was poor, by pooling(合伙经营) resources, Zhu was chosen to be sent to a regional private school in 1892. At the age of nine, Zhu was adopted by his wealthy uncle, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} political influence allowed him {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (gain) access to Yunnan Military Academy. Later, he attained the rank of Xiucai in 1906, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (make) him qualified as a civil servant. He was admitted into a Sichuan high school around 1907, and graduated in 1908. Consequently, he returned to Yilong's primary school as a gym {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (instruct). He was an advocate(倡导者) of modern science and political teaching, rather than the strict classical education afforded by schools, so he {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (dismiss) from his post and entered the Yunnan Military Academy in Kunming. There, he joined the Beiyang Army and the Tongmenghui secret political society.

    When China's astronaut Zhai Zhigang carried out the spacewalk on September 27, he was wearing a spacesuit developed by Chinese scientists. Being worth more than 30 million yuan, the Feitian (飞天) spacesuit is not {#blank#}1{#/blank#}ordinary one.

    It {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（take）Chinese scientists four years to develop it. But what is special about the suit? First Let's take a look at why{#blank#}3{#/blank#}（astronaut） need to wear spacesuits.

    When you visit a world with little or no atmosphere, not{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(wear) a spacesuit, the following things would happen:

    You would become unconscious within 15 seconds because there is no oxygen.

    Your blood and body fluids(液体) would “boil” and then “freeze” {#blank#}5{#/blank#} there is little or no air pressure.

    You would receive various types of radiation.

    You could{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(hit) by dust or rock that moves at high speeds.

So, to protect you{#blank#}7{#/blank#}these dangers, a spacesuit must:

    Have a pressurized atmosphere;

    Give you oxygen;

    Keep a(n) {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(comfort) temperature;

    Let you see clearly and move easily.

    The Feitian suit did all that and what it {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（do）made it like a mini-spaceship in{#blank#}10{#/blank#}the astronaut stayed alive in outer space and carried out tasks.

    Climate change has caused a rise in sea levels. This has increased the amount of salt in fresh water{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(use) on coastal farms. As{#blank#}2{#/blank#} result, farmers are {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(gradual) unable to use fields close to the sea.

    However, Marc Van Rijsselberg, a farmer in the Netherlands is now using a{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(mix) of sea and fresh water {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(grow) healthy and tasty vegetables.

    He teamed up with scientists from the Free University and divided a farm {#blank#}6{#/blank#}eight negated areas. Separate pipes pumped fresh and sea water, and a computer program created water with eight levels of salinity（含盐度）．

    The water levels and the levels of salinity were controlled by computerized measuring devices called "sensors". Mr. Van Rijsselberg said he was able to harvest vegetables from most of the eight testing areas. He said the vegetables were smaller than {#blank#}7{#/blank#}grown in fresh water. But he said they also had more sugar and salt, so they tasted much{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(good).

    He found that potatoes grew better than the other vegetables in the combination of sea and fresh water. Mr. Van Rijsselberg said four kinds of these potatoes would be sent to Pakistan{#blank#}9{#/blank#}thousands of hectares of land {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(damage) by salinization (盐化作用) last year.

    Yesterday, I was walking down the street {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I saw four separate dimes (角) on the ground shining in the sunlight. I bent down, picked them up and entered the post office. Inside a lady {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (dig) through her purse at the counter anxiously looking for change to mail a package. Believe it or not, she was exactly forty cents short. How amazing it was! I placed my dimes on the counter. The smile I got in return was worth a thousand {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (dollar).
