Subject: The Riding for the Disabled Association
Hi Christine,
Sorry I haven't emailed lately —I've been very busy since becoming a volunteer for the Riding for the Disabled Association.
Every Saturday, I help to get the horses {#blank#}1{#/blank#} for the disabled(残疾) riders. Many more disabled people want to ride {#blank#}2{#/blank#} than you'd imagine. It's a disadvantage that I don't know how to ride —I'd love to got on long rides with the riders— but I'll learn soon {#blank#}3{#/blank#} . Right now, I'm just happy to be able to lead the horses around for the disabled riders.
I'm{#blank#}4{#/blank#} helping to organize a sale, which will be {#blank#}5{#/blank#} next month. It's a lot more work than helping the disabled. I need to collect second-hand things to sell at the sale. There are {#blank#}6{#/blank#} things available(获得的) than I thought, but I'm sure we'll have enough{#blank#}7{#/blank#} next month.
I hope the sale raises more money than last month's walk. It was rainy, so too few people took part in the event. Last week, we held an auction(拍卖). The auction took much less {#blank#}8{#/blank#} to organize than the walk. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} , for some reason, people offered too little money for the things, so we didn't raise enough money.
I'm {#blank#}10{#/blank#} you some pictures in the letter, as well as a speech I gave last week.

Once there was a very rich man. He had a lot of money, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}he wasn't happy at all. He didn't know the purpose (目标) of his life. So the rich man asked a wise old man for help.
The old man {#blank#}2{#/blank#}him to a window and asked him, "What can you see {#blank#}3{#/blank#}the glass (玻璃)?"
The man said, "I can see people coming and going along the street. And there is a poor man {#blank#}4{#/blank#}food."
Then the old man took him to a large mirror and said," Now look in the mirror and {#blank#}5{#/blank#}me what you see."
After looking at the mirror for some time, the man said, "I can {#blank#}6{#/blank#}see myself."
The old man looked at the rich man, smiled and said, "Did you find that {#blank#}7{#/blank#}the glass of the window and the mirror are made of the something? The only {#blank#}8{#/blank#}is that there is a silver coating(银色涂层) on the mirror. As a result, all you can see is {#blank#}9{#/blank#}in the mirror. It is the same with humans. You will be able to see the others when you take away that silver coating. It covers (遮住) your {#blank#}10{#/blank#}When you can see the others and feel compassion (同情) and love for them, you'll find the purpose of your life and feel happy."

Once upon a time, a father and his son were walking from one town to another, While they {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, they happened to pass by a river. They were tired and stopped there {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Then the father asked his son to get him some water from the river.
Then the son walked to the riverside and he {#blank#}3{#/blank#}some women washing clothes there. Right at that moment, a bullock cart(牛车) started crossing the river. As a result, the water became very dirty. “I mustn't take the dirty water to my father,” he thought. So he came back and said. “Look, Father. A bullock cart {#blank#}4{#/blank#}the river now, so the water is dirty and it can't be drunk.” Father said nothing.
After a while, the son {#blank#}5{#/blank#}to get some water again by his father. The water was still dirty, but he didn't go back. He thought, “My father is so thirsty. I {#blank#}6{#/blank#}back clean water this time, even though it will take me a long time.” Then he sat there, waiting until the water was clean. He collected some in a bowl and took it back.
“Oh, you are back at last, I {#blank#}7{#/blank#}for you for almost half an hour.” Father said. After {#blank#}8{#/blank#}the water, he looked up at his son and said, “Now, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}about what made the water clean. You let it be and the water became clean on its own. It is also the same with your mind. When it is disturbed(打扰), just let it be, and it will calm down on its own.”
The son thought for a while and said, “Thank you, Father. I {#blank#}10{#/blank#}this forever.”
We can make best decisions when we stay calm.
