Although it was autumn, the snow was already beginning to fall in Tibet (西藏). Our legs were so heavy and cold that 1 felt like big pieces of ice. Have you 2 seen snowmen ride bicycles? That's what we looked like! Along the way children who were 3 long wool coats stopped to look at us. In the late4 we found it was so cold that our water bottles froze (结冰).However, the lakes   5 like glass in the setting sun and looked wonderful.

    Wang Wei rode in front of me as usual. She was in high spirit and I knew I didn't need to

    6 her. To climb the mountains was hard work but as we7 us, we were surprised by the view. We seemed to be able to see for miles, and we were so high that we found ourselves cycling through clouds. After a while, we began going 8 the mountains. It was great fun especially as it slowly became much 9. At the foot of the mountains, colourful butterflies flew around us and we saw many sheep eating green grass. Then we had to 10 our caps, gloves and trousers for T-shirts and shorts.

    In the early evening we stopped to make camps. We 11 our tent（帐篷）and then we ate. After supper Wang Wei went to sleep but I stayed 12.  13 midnight the sky became clearer and the stars grew brighter. As I 14 below the stars I thought about how far we had already travelled.

    We will reach Dali in Yunan Province soon, where our cousins will join us. We 15 hardly wait to see them!

Long long ago, a king loved riddles. Once a year he made a new riddle and offered a 1 to the person who could first solve it.

Bob, a young man, was famous for his fine 2 . Bob had almost everything he needed except for 3 . He wanted to sell his products to every comer of the kingdom.

One year the king made a new riddle. People came from far and wide. He drew a line on the courtyard. "Make this line shorter without erasing （j青除）any part of it. Whoever wins can pick one of my strongest horses! Yet, is there anyone smarter than me? I doubt it!^v the king 4 the crowd.

People looked at the line in different directions. "How can you make a line shorter without erasing any part of it?" the crowd asked each other. Some of them 5 ・ The dressmaker kicked dirt over the end of the line to 6 it. The farmer poured water over the line to make it 7 . None of these efforts worked.

Then Bob came with a bag of flour（面粉）from his shop. "Your Majesty, this riddle is just a piece of cake."8 , Bob opened his bag of flour and poured out a line of flour right next to the king's line・ The line was 9 than the king's line.

"Now, my king," Bob smiled, ^Uyour line is shorter."

"Such a clever trick!" the people were 10 ・ The king laughed. ^uYou made it.

I'm Nancy. I live in a small but nice {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. In the center of our town is a hotel. It's on Center Street. The police station is on the{#blank#}2{#/blank#}, too.

 There are all kinds of shops in town. I {#blank#}3{#/blank#} buy food in Alan's food shop. And {#blank#}4{#/blank#} from the food shop, there is a pet shop. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the pet shop is a shoe shop. We also have a bank. It's near the pet shop. People can keep their {#blank#}6{#/blank#} in it. And next to the bank, there are two {#blank#}7{#/blank#}, Their food is very delicious and we can have {#blank#}8{#/blank#} drinks there. The clothing shops and the post office are in the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} of the town.

There is a small library near my home. Every weekend, my sister  {#blank#}10{#/blank#} going there to read books.
