Jane was a young girl. She loved to see the negative side of life.

Once, her father took her to the kitchen. He asked Jane to take a potato, an egg1 two spoons of tea leaves. Jane was 2 , and asked her father, "Do you want me to cook?"

"No," her father said.

He then took three pots and 3 some water into each pot. The pots were placed on the stove. Once the water started to boil, he dropped the potato in a pot, egg in 4 one and the tea leaves in the third one.

"Why are you doing all these things?" Jane felt puzzled and asked.

"You'll get the answer in fifteen minutes" said her father.

The impatient daughter tried her best 5  for around 15 minutes.

Now, he placed the two plates, one with the potato and 6 with the egg, and the cup of tea in front of Jane.

Jane asked, "What does it mean, father? I don't understand!"

"Each object faced similar adversities（不幸）, but reacted（反应）7 . After we put the potato into boiling water, it became very weak. The soft egg became very hard 8 we put it in boiling water. And the tea leaves changed the water itself, giving it a nice smell. 9  fantastic it is!"

Jane understood that we could create 10 new even when we experienced adversities.

So, what are you? A potato, an egg or tea leaves?

I was always busy with work and travel. I didn't think I would have 1 or energy to care for a pet. But everything changed when I met Kitty.

Kitty was a homeless cat that I found on the street one 2 night. She was wet, hungry and frightened, and she looked at me as if she was begging (祈求) for 3 . So I decided to take her to my 4 .

At first, Kitty was 5 and nervous. She hid under the sofa and only came out when I offered her food and water. She didn't like to be 6 or held, and she would scratch (绕) me if I tried to pet her. I wondered if she would ever 7 me or love me.

But as time went by. Kitty started to warm up to me. She began to 8 me around the house, and sit next to me on the sofa or the bed. She would play 9 with the toys I bought her and would wait for me at the door when I came home from work.

Kitty 10 my life for the better. She made me feel more relaxed. She taught me how to be more patient and caring.

Charity(慈善) took one famous lady far away from her home. Mother Teresa spent most of her life helping others She was born in 1910. When she was eighteen years old, she decided to be a nun(修女). Soon she was sent to India. At first, she worked in a school in Calcutta. Most of the students came from the rich family, and Mother Teresa's life was comfortable. Twenty years later, she left the school and Started to help poor people. First she opened a free school. Some of her former students came to help he rather new school, In 1950, she started the Missionaries of Charity(仁爱之家) that was made up of nuns. In 1952, she opened the first home for the dying. Some people didn't like it because they were at raid of having dying people in their neighborhood. But slowly people changed their mind. They began to see all the good that Mother Teresa and her nuns were doing. Later, Mother Teresa became very famous, and received a lot of money from people who wanted to support(支持) her work. In 1979 she won the Noble Peace Prize. More people have begun to do charity work since then. Now there are homes for the dying in many different countries. Mother Teresa died in 1997, but she is still remembered all over the world for what she did for the poor. 

Surprise plays an important role in our lives. Last term my classmates and I gave our teacher a big 1 . Our teacher had a bad 2 and coughed a lot. She could hardly speak a sentence. When we looked at her pale face, we 3 the warmth she always gave us. So we decided to do 4 for her. Since Christmas was coming at that time, we planned a surprise for her. I made a postcard and wrote, "I hope you get5 soon". 

During class break, there were some other things on her desk, like candies and cakes. They all came from my classmates. A note was also lying there saying, "Take care, our 6 teacher. " My classmates and I hid where our teacher couldn't7 us, waiting for her appearance. 

Finally, our teacher came. Seeing the presents on her desk, she smiled.8 we were not right by her side, we could feel her happiness. Tears ran down her face. And when she looked up again. In front of9 were three shining faces smiling back at her. "Thank you!" she whispered , holding our hands tightly. 

Every one of us10 needs help. And to me, the best thing to do is to surprise them and cheer them up. 

Alison, a very unusual painter, paints pictures for a living. However, she doesn't use her hands when she paints. She uses her mouth!

When she was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (十九), Alison had a car accident. She was h{#blank#}2{#/blank#} so seriously that her family thought she would lose her life. But t{#blank#}3{#/blank#} to the doctor, she was saved. However, her p{#blank#}4{#/blank#} problem caused her to spend many years of her life in hospital. 

Alison {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (需要) plenty of time to relax, but she never gave up. She realised that even though she was disabled (有残疾的), she could express h{#blank#}6{#/blank#} as freely as normal people. This was what got her to start drawing paintings. She believes that she can{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (成功) as others. With great{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(精力), her painting skills have reached a high level and her paintings do not look like they were drawn by someone who used her mouth. Meanwhile, Alison keeps eating h{#blank#}9{#/blank#} food and doing some exercise to stay fit. Alison has become a symbol of {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (勇 气). Many disabled people have been cheered up by her active way of living and become more confident.
