A deer was in danger of being killed by some men. Feeling frightened, he ran out of the forest. He saw a farmhouse and found that the door of the cow stall was open. So he decided to hide himself under the straw.
"What are you doing? You are staying in a place of a farmer. It is very dangerous!" said a cow. "No one will find me if you don't tell others where I am," said the deer, "and I shall be off again on the first chance." As evening came, a farm worker went to feed the cows but did not find the deer. Later, one more
farm worker came in and out. The deer was still safe. All seemed right. The deer felt quite safe and began to thank the cows for their warm welcome. "Wait a while," said one of them, "we really wish you well, but there is yet another person. It seems he has a hundred eyes. If he happens to come here, you will truly be in danger!" While the cow was speaking, the farmer had just finished his dinner. "I haven't been to the cow stall for a long time, so I should go to see them and make sure all the cows are safe for the night," he thought and he did. When he went up to the stall, he found there was little straw and the stall was very dirty. He felt strange, so he looked around carefully. Suddenly, the farmer found the deer's antlers(鹿角) in the straw. He immediately called his workers and captured the deer.
