A cold winter night, a girl quarreled (争吵) with her mother, then ran out of the house. When she went through a noodle shop, she suddenly felt very hungry.

The seller saw her standing there and asked, "Hey, little girl, you want to eat a bowl?"

"But... but I do not carry money..."she shyly replied to the man.

"Okay, I'll treat you. Come in. I will cook you a bowl."

A few minutes later, the seller brought her a bowl of noodles. After eating some pieces, the girl cried.

"What is it?" he asked.

"Nothing. I am just touched by your kindness!" she said with tears. "Even a stranger on the street gives me a bowl of noodles. But my mother, after a quarrel, she is not a good mother!!"

"Girl, why did you think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you felt that way. Your mother has been taking care of you since you were born. Why were you not grateful (感激的) and why did you hurt your mom?"

The girl was really surprised after hearing that. "Thanks, I got it."

I'll always remember the first time I tried ballet(芭蕾). My mother was a dancer and I wanted to be like her, but after making many mistakes during my first class, I felt like I wanted to give up right away. Because it was only my first day, I told my mom I couldn't wait to dance again.

Several weeks passed and my dancing didn't get any better. Then my dance teacher told us that we were going to perform in a show. I was afraid of falling on my face in front of hundreds of people and made my mom sad.

I practiced hard for the show, but I still didn't get the hang of it. Finally, I went to my mom to tell her how I felt. She just laughed and told me she would tea ch me all she knew about ballet. My mom quickly found out how bad at ballet I was, but she still taught me with the greatest patience, love and understanding. When I jumped and fell, she was there to catch me. When I lost my balance, she held me up. By the time the show arrived, I was as prepared as I could be.

The music began and my heart started to beat quickly. Breathing calmly, I began moving to the music without missing a step. When the music stopped, I ran off the stage and laughed with excitement.

My mom found me and gave me a huge hug, telling me how proud she was. I looked my mom in the eye and told her that there was no way this could have happened without her. Through this, I knew one important fact: My mom will always be there to catch me if I fall.

Two friends Peter and Dale were walking through the desert. During the journey, they had an argument and Peter slapped（扇耳光） Dale in the face. Dale was hurt, but without saying anything, he wrote in the 1 "Today, my best friend slapped me in the face." They kept on walking 2 they found an oasis（绿洲） where they decided to take a bath. 3 Dale got stuck in the mare（泥潭） and almost lost his life. But his friend Peter saved him. After he came back to life, he carve（刻） on a stone, "Today, my best friend saved my 4 " Peter, the friend who had slapped and 5 him, asked, "After I hurt you, you wrote it in the sand, but now you carve it 6 a stone. Why?" Peters? 7 " When you hurt me, I wrote it down in the sand, because the 8 can blow the bad memory and feelings away. However, when you saved my life, I must write it on a stone, 9 no wind will take it away. The 10 things you did for me will be recorded forever." Learn to write your hurts in the sand, and to carve your thankfulness in the stone. 

Here are some accidents which often happen to children:

◆ Scalds (烫伤) — Small children don't understand that hot water and hot drinks can be dangerous. It only takes a cup of tea or coffee, or a bath that's very hot to scald a child badly. 

◆ Falls— Children of all ages fall and hurt themselves from time to time. For babies, the danger is rolling off the edge (从边缘滚下来) of something like beds, chairs or tables. It's very easy for babies of two to four to fall off a piece of furniture, down the stairs, out of a window or off a balcony (阳台).

◆ Burns— Many children die in house fires and more are badly burnt. A cigarette (香烟) can easily start a fire. A child can also be burnt by a hot iron or matches. 

◆ Cuts— Glass causes the most serious cuts. So keep away from broken bottles, doors or windows.
