Many people think heroes (英雄) need to be handsome rich, or very smart. But as for me, a hero is a person who always helps others. My hero is Uncle Bill. He is the oldest son of a worker, and he grew up in a poor family with four younger brothers and two little sisters.

He was good at neither writing nor maths. In fact, he never did well in school. So he had to give up school at a very young age. He worked and gave all his money to help his parents. When he was getting older, he found that he was very interested in fixing things. He collected broken things which people threw away and fixed them. He could fix almost everything that did not work. He worked hard and never gave up. Finally, he opened his own repair shop. It took him about twenty years to become a successful shopkeeper.

Now he is very wealthy and has four shops. But he never forgets the days when he had nothing. He gives money to poor families, helps poor kids buy books and offers them free lunch. He also encourages people to reuse things. He always says, "Make good use of what you have because we just have one earth."

I am proud of Uncle Bill. He is really a hero.

Mandy's family lived in a small village. They had a hard but happy life. Mandy was never lonely,1 many children played on the hill behind their house.

But one winter, Mandy fell ill. Her parents were too 2 to pay for the medicine. Mandy had to sit by the window, watching her friends outside.

One day, a spider(蜘蛛) came and began to spin(结网) down next to her. When Mom came in, she noticed the3 too." Please get out!"

" No, she is my friend. Please let her stay. Look! She's spinning 4 me."

How thankful the spider was!5 came. The family started to decorate(装饰) the tree. Mom prepared some eggs and Mandy started to paint on them. But after a while, she was tired. Mom helped her finish the 6 and hung them on the tree. Dad found some pieces of wood and cut a few stars, but without Mandy, it didn't feel the same 7 .

When the family were asleep, the spider began to 8 . She spun down to the floor, then carefully climbed every branch(树枝), leaving her web s behind.9 , she reached the top of the tree.

Before long, the 10 air blew under the door and turned the gray webs to silver—— real silver.

The next day, Dad took the silver to exchange for coins. They were enough to pay for Mandy's14 . Two weeks later, Mandy was on the hill,15 with her friends again.

 The summer holiday is over. It's true that time always flies fast. During the holiday, the weather was hot and I could not do much work, but I lived happily. 

 As the afternoon was hot, I did my work in the morning. I used to get up at 6:30 and take a walk in the garden for half an hour. After breakfast, I began reading English and Chinese and worked on some maths problems. These took me three hours or more. I worked quite hard and made good progress(进步). 

I spent the afternoon outside. I went to swim and it was fun. I would not go home until it was about five or six o' clock. Sometimes a friend of mine would come to see me and we would spend some hours listening to music. 

 In this way I spent my holiday happily. And I not only made up some of my lessons, but also became a good swimmer. Now I am in good health and high spirits. 

I'll never forget the day when I went on a hot- air balloon trip. It was a birthday gift from my aunt. 

I had to 1 early, but it wasn't a problem. I couldn't sleep because I was so excited. 

My parents and my aunt came to 2 . They waved (挥手) as I got into the balloon. There were five other people and the pilot (飞行员) in it. When we took off, it was quite 3 and I couldn't hear anything. Then it became much quieter, I can't describe the 4 . It felt like a dream. The sky was blue and clear. I could see all the people below us. They were getting smaller and smaller 5 we got higher and higher. 

6 , a rainstorm began! The balloon started to drop. The pilot decided to land as quickly as possible, but he couldn't control (控制) the balloon. The wind was 7 us to the sea. It was very scary (吓人)!

Very soon, the 8 changed direction and we were finally able to land on a hill. We got out of the balloon. Luckily, no one was hurt. I could walk back to my 9 and show them I was OK. 

Was I 10 ? Yes, a little. Will I ever do it again? Not sure!

My little sister is in Grade Seven this year, her favorite subject is math, and she is very good at it. 

One day, a friend of my father's from America showed us some {#blank#}1{#/blank#}about America and invited us to his home. My sister wanted to go there very much, but my father said she must speak English very well. From then on, she {#blank#}2{#/blank#}to work hard, she kept reading English for about half an hour every morning. In class, she listened very {#blank#}3{#/blank#} and answered the teacher's questions as soon as possible. There was an American teacher in her school. After school, she talked to him in English as {#blank#}4{#/blank#} as he was free. Now she always says, "My dream is to be a diplomat. " I am sure her dream will come {#blank#}5{#/blank#}one day.
