Tom was an eight-year-old boy. He came to a new town with his parents. His family was very rich(富有的). They lived in a big, beautiful house with a big garden. There was a driver, a cook, a gardener and a lot of servants(佣人).

Tom was going to a new school. On the first day, his mother said to him, "Tom, be modest(谦虚的) at school. Don't say we are rich. "Tom said, "All right, Mum. "Then he went to his new school.

He met his new teachers and classmates. The teacher said, "Good morning, boys and girls! This is Tom, your new classmate. Now let him introduce himself to you. "

Tom stood up and said, "My name is Tom. My family is poor. My father is poor. The gardener is very poor. The cook is poor. And all the other servants are very poor too. So I am a poor boy……"

China covers a large area and there are 56 peoples in it. So China has a variety of Chinese food with different but mouth-watering flavor (风味). Generally speaking, Chinese food can be mainly divided into eight cuisines (菜系). Let's have a look at some of them.

Once upon a time, in a large community, there lived a teenager named Emma. Emma had always been known for her kindness and pity towards others. She believed the power of small acts of kindness could make a difference in people's lives. 

One day, Emma noticed a new student named Ethan sitting alone at lunchtime. Sensing his loneliness, Emma decided to offer a welcoming hand. She went to Ethan with a warm smile and invited him to join her and her friends at their table. 

Ethan didn't know what to do at first, unsure of himself in this new environment. But Emma's actual kindness broke through his barriers(障碍), and he accepted her invitation with thankfulness. From that day on, Ethan found a sense of belonging and friendship that he had longed for. 

Inspired(激励) by Emma's kindness, Ethan decided to pay it forward. He reached out to another shy student, Lily, who was struggling with her confidence. Ethan's small act of kindness lifted Lily's spirits and excited a newfound confidence in herself. 

The ripples(涟漪)of kindness continued to spread throughout the school. Lily, inspired by Ethan's kindness, became a guider to younger students, providing guidance and support. Those younger students, in turn, grew up to pass kindness in their interactions with others. 

As the years passed, the influence of Emma's act of kindness grew more and more rapidly. The school turned into a good community that the people volunteer to help each other, where small acts of kindness were celebrated and encouraged. 

Around the world，many wild（野生的）animals are in dangerof extinction（灭绝）because they have no place. to live in. Endangered （濒危的） wild animals live all over the world and you may find some in your hometown. Here are some steps for protecting endangered animals. 

Step 1:Find out what, animals are in danger. Spend some, time. learning about animals and what their favorite places are. 

Step2： Do something for nature reserves（自然保护区）. Nature reserves are good places to help protect endangered animals. You can give some money to nature reserves or spend your time helping the nature reserves to protect endangered animals. 

Step 3: Never buy anything that are made from endangered animals. Don't do harm to endangered animals or their living places. Instead, we should try our bestto protect them. 

Step 4： Join an endangered animal protection organization（组织）. You can save animals through these organizations by planting more trees and calling for more people to protect animals. 

If everyone works hard to protect endangered animals, we'll get a more beautiful world. Let's take actions from now on!

Almost everyone today has a smartphone. However, many people cannot get rid of (脱离) smartphones because phones have become part of daily life. 

As the addiction (瘾) to the smartphone has become a serious problem, it brings many results in life. Most phone users look down at their phones for a long time. When hunching (弯) or bending their neck, they put serious pressure on the neck and backbone. And this will cause a sore back or a neck ache. According to studies, as high as 45% of the young people from age 16 to 24 these days suffer back pain because of the heavy usage of smartphones. Also, trying to focus on and look at the screen of the phone for a long time will discomfort eyes and may cause loss of vision (视力). Besides, if someone brings the phone to sleep with, he or she will spend more time on the phone than sleep without noticing it. It's true that phones make life more convenient, but that doesn't mean they can take control of life. 

To get rid of phones, you can create a phone-free time. For example, turn off your phone or stop it from the Internet after 8:00 p.m. At that time, you can spend time on anything but phone so that you won't check on your phone. Just like smoking, phone addiction is habitual. You must replace the habit with another if you want to stop it. So find a few things to do whenever you are not using your phone, such as reading a book or exercising. 

Of course, it's not easy to get rid of a habit and the beginning is the most challenging. That's why having a strong mind really makes a big difference. Remember, do not let your phone become your ____. Instead, improve your self-control and put smartphones into good use.
