Kian Hamer, 14-year-old, has become one of the youngest members (成员) of Mensa. Mensa is an international organization (国际组织) for IQ (智商). Mensa has about 110,000 members all over the world. Only eight percent of the members are under 16. Kian's IQ is 162 and it's two points higher than Albert Einstein's.

Mensa sent a letter to Kian's home. The letter wrote, "Kian is one of the cleverest people in the world." Kian is really excited to join Mensa. He always works hardest on everything he does. Although people call him a genius (天才), he still wants to be a football player when he grows up. He loves playing football very much.

His dad Rich Hamer said, "Kian is clever but I'm not calling him a genius like others. I want him to keep his feet on the ground. He needs to study hard all the time. Never be proud (骄傲). He always does well at school. He works really hard and always tries his best."

    Once there was a good vegetable patch (菜地), and there grew avery big tree. Both the vegetables and the tree1 the place wonderful. But no one knew that thevegetables in the patch and the tree couldn't2 each other for a long time. The vegetablesdidn't like the tree's shade (树荫) because it stoppedthem from getting enough3. James Dyson is a famous British inventor. One of his well - known inventions is the bagless vacuum cleaner（真空吸尘器）. It {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (invent ) in 1978. Today, Dyson still remembers that day. " I felt very {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( excite ) at that time because I was the only man in the world with a bagless vacuum cleaner, " he said. 

Dyson is over seventy years old now. At first, he wasn't {#blank#}3{#/blank#}inventor. Later, he {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ( discover ) his talent. When he studied art at the Royal College of Art in London, he did well{#blank#}5{#/blank#}making new things. In 1975, he invented his own {#blank#}6{#/blank#}( produce )- the Sea Truck. It was a boat for carrying things between islands. 

Then he set up a company with his partners to make and sell another invention, the Bllbarrow, a kind of vehicle. But later, Dyson left his company {#blank#}7{#/blank#}he didn't agree with his partners. After that, Dyson began to improve on the vacuum cleaner. In 1985, Dyson took his invention to Japan to{#blank#}8{#/blank#}( sell ) it. However, few people paid money for this. And he didn't mike much money. Several years later, Dyson decided to produce and sell the machine by {#blank#}9{#/blank#}( he ). By 2005, Dyson controlled both the European and American markets. Along the way, Dyson discovered the secret to success, "People{#blank#}10{#/blank#}( buy ) your products if they're better. " 

I was looking through my old photos last Sunday. One photo{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(catch) my eye. In the photo, I was sitting in a chair, hugging Duke, my best friend in the whole world.

Duke was an interesting name for such{#blank#}2{#/blank#}little dog. But he was my friend from the moment I could walk. He stayed with me in that chair when I read{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(book). When I went outside{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(play) games, he would drive our cats up to the trees and then walk off feeling proud of{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(him). When he was hungry, he would carry his food dish in his mouth and drop{#blank#}6{#/blank#}at my mom's feet. When I was sick, he refused to leave my bed until I got{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(well) than before.

I learned a lot from Duke. I learned that a short sleep at noon could be good{#blank#}8{#/blank#}you. I learned that simplest dinner can be delicious{#blank#}9{#/blank#}you eat it with great enjoyment. I learned that life can be good when you live it with love and joy.   {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(sad), I also learned that life is short, especially if you are a dog.

To me, Duke is like a teacher who has taught me how to love and to be loved.

①As a kind of traditional Chinese art, paper cutting has a long history. The first and earliest paper cutting was found in China about 1,500 years ago. But the traditional art is at risk of disappearing （消失） now. Luckily, Voyo Woo, a Chinese immigrant （移民）, is trying to bring the art back to life.

②Ms Woo began to study paper cutting as a 14-year-old girl in her hometown in China. She said all the students at school had to learn paper cutting. But she had a deep love for it. So her teacher spent more time teaching her after class. Later, she won second prize in a national painting and calligraphy （书法） competition. Ms Woo went to America after she finished college in 2008. Soon after that, she took part in an activity to promote Chinese paper cutting. And then she was invited to show the art in many important activities. "It is important to promote the art to Americans or anyone who is interested in it. Maybe it will make the art more popular." Woo said.

③From paper cutting, people can know about Chinese cultural values, history and stories of people's life. Ms Woo uses the art as a tool to show Chinese culture to the people who know little about it. Chinese art is not only for Chinese, but also for people all over the world.

Fan Zhaoyi is a hotel owner at "Snow Town". In the past，most people there {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（make） a living by cutting down trees. But it was difficult to take the wood out of the farm because the snow was too heavy. The snow season at the farm can last up to seven {#blank#}2{#/blank#} （month） a year. Many workers had to find other jobs {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（slow）. 

"At that time，these workers {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（encourage） to work in the tourism area，but many people were afraid to try. Few families were brave enough {#blank#}5{#/blank#}（provide） hotels，but I was a brave one. " Fan said.
