In space, there was a little grey planet. It looked very 1 , because the people who lived there didn't look after it. They polluted (污染) the whole planet heavily 2 rubbish. As a result, there were few plants and animals left.

One day, a little boy, Jim, was 3 on the planet. When he passed a cave (山洞), he 4 a small red flower inside. The flower was very ill — almost dying, so Jim 5 dug(挖) up the flower. Then he started looking for a 6 to take care of it. He searched all over the planet, but everywhere was polluted so much that there was 7 the flower could possibly live in. Then he looked up at the 8 . It seemed that maybe the plant could live there.

Jim decided to go there. He 9 a spaceship and put the little red flower in the back. Then they 10 to the moon. Far away from all that pollution, the flower soon grew up, giving 11 to others, and these other flowers spread onto other flowers. Soon the flowers 12 the whole moon. When the little boy's flowers came out, the moon gave out a soft red light. It was the most 13 scenery (风景) the boy had ever seen.

Maybe the story is telling us 14 we don't look after the planet, a day will come when flowers can only grow on the moon. So we must be 15 to the planet that we are living on now.

Give Directions in Different Places

If you ask people of different countries "Could you tell me the way to the post office?", you will get different answers.

In Japan, people use landmarks(路标) instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers, "Go straight down to the corner. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} The post office is across from the bus stop.

In Kansas, America, there are no towns or buildings within miles. So instead of landmarks, people will tell you directions and distance. For example, people will say,"Go north two miles. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} "

People in Greece sometimes do not even try to give directions. They will often say, "Follow me." {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Sometimes if a person doesn't know the answer to your question, he or she,like a New Yorker,might say,"Sorry,I have no idea."But in Yucatan, Mexico, no one answers "I don't know." {#blank#}4{#/blank#}They usually give an answer, but often a wrong one. A visitor can often get lost in Yucatan!

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} You might not understand a person's words, but maybe you can understand his or her body language. He or she will usually point to the right direction, Go on in that direction and you may find the post office!

One of my earliest memories is playing "shops" with my granddad when I was 5 years old. After 1 school at 15, I worked in a fruit shop, but I had no 2 of how to run my own shop back then. 

Several years later, I got married. My husband Eric and I heard about a shop for sale in the nearby village. We had a look and decided to have a shop of our own. That was January 1973. Shopkeeping was 3 to us, so we often didn't know what the 4 were asking for. But we soon learned. 

We can tell by the weather how 5 the shop is going to be. On wet days there are very few people around, and when it's 6 people want bread and milk, as they're worried about being snowed in. When it's hot, everyone buys cold drinks and ice cream. 

More people shop online nowadays, but they still come here for things 7 from their order. I've kept up with technology and have a card reader, but the shop itself hasn't changed much. 

Now, as I'm getting older, it's open from 7 a. m. to 6 p. m. on weekdays 8 closing at 8: 30 p. m. However, I keep it open until 2 p. m. at weekends. 

Eric passed away 16 years ago, but I am 9 getting rid of (处理掉) the shop. I love it all—talking to the customers and getting 10 they want. There are customers who come in two or three times a day, and we see several generations of families. Customers often tell me their 11 and I offer advice if I can. 

It was the 50th anniversary (周年纪念) of the shop on January 13 this year. I wanted to do something 12 , so I held a party and had drinks and nibbles with customers. I also 13 a book about my memories in the shop. It's called Just Ask Jenny, as I'm always the first port of call when anyone wants to know 14 .

This shop has been my life. I never 15 I'd still be here after 50 years, but I love it and the people. It's what keeps me going, and I've got no plan of retiring (退休).

No one is born a winner. People make themselves into winners by their own effort. 

I learned this lesson from a（n）1 many years ago. I worked as a new football coach（教练） at a university in State of Georgia. 

It was a tradition for the school's old team in the club to play against a2 team at the end of the term. The old team had no coach，and they didn't even practice to prepare for the game. Being the coach of the new team，I helped them practice once a week and I thought we were sure to 3 ，but to my surprise，we lost the game. I could 4 believe that I had got into such a situation. After thinking hard about it，I came to realize that I might be too 5 about ourselves. I had to change my attitude （态度） and the way of training. 

Instead of seeing my boys as losers，I pushed and 6 them. I started doing anything I could to help them. That summer，when other teams 7 their holidays，we met every day and practiced passing and kicking the football. 

Six months later，we won our first game and our second，and continued to head in. Finally，we faced the number one team in the state. Before the game，I thought even if we lost the game，it would still be a8 for us. But that didn't happen. My boys beat the best team in the state，giving me one of the 9 memories of my life! 

From the experience，I learnt a lot about how the attitude of a leader could change a team. I helped them to see themselves 10 ，and they built themselves into winners. 

Winners are made，but not born. 

Michael is from Michigan, the US. He first came to China 10 years ago, and his 1 for coming here was quite interesting. Back in the US, he 2 a video game about a Chinese story called Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Through that 3 story, he became very interested in Chinese culture and Chinese history. As a result, he 4 to start learning Chinese.

5 he came here, something fantastic made him want to stay here. He worked here and soon he will have a new 6 here. He and his wife (妻子) will live in Qingdao.

For him, China is about the people. When he first came to China, he 7 a Chinese family. The hosts are 8 and he now thinks of them as his Chinese parents.

"For those people wondering about coming to China, maybe they should take 9 advice," Michael said. "10 , the first choice is Beijing. It's a wonderful city with a long history, rich culture, friendly people and 11 food. I also really want to recommend (推荐) Xi'an, another 12 place."

There are so many cities in China. 13 no two cities in China are alike. They all have different cultures, though they are in the same country. So no matter (无论) where foreign visitors visit, they will have great 14 .

"I really 15 everyone to come here and see for themselves what the Chinese people are like, and what the country is like. And I'm sure they will love it," said Michael.
